I find Villa and the **** attitude to the UEFA cup puzzling
Both teams went all out to win a trophey and finish high up the league to enter europe only then to treat the competition with total contempt. Why go all out to get there then treat it as a pain in the arse?. The likes of Milan went all out to win it.

if you follow their mentality through then.
1. if villa for instance are in the bottom three in september, october, november and december will they play a weaker team in the CL
2. the same with the **** will they play a weaker team in the uefa
to fight to earn the right to enter a competition then to field a weak team is just crazy

Im sure the premier league are desperate for us to finsih in the top 4 as villa probably wont get to the group stages, a bit like everton a few years back.
I think Villa are starting to slow down a bit recently, i think we'll finish 4th.
But you rite radford, it ming boggoling that a team that fought really hard all of last season to get into the cup, just seem to give it up, they'll regret it.

I can kind of understand Spurs. With the team United are likely to put out, they stand a decent chance of silverware (be honest....what wouldn't we give for some of that....!).
But Villa? They are willing to give up on the chance of winning one competition to increase the chances of finishing fourth in another....? How sad is that!
In truth, I find the whole top 4 thing a bit sad. Finish fourth or win the FA Cup? I know what I'd prefer, but I bet most club owners wouldn't agree. If we really start to get back on terms with Villa will we put out a weakened side v Hull in the quarter final? I hope not!
And its also got to the stage where getting into the top 4 is so, so important that winning the Premier League is just icing on the cake!
EUFA and the Premier League should take a long hard look at how they divvy up the dosh and hopefully the clubs can get back to the important matter of actually trying to win football matches....regardless of the competition!

It makes my blood boil that Villa went into Uefa Cup via the Intertoto Cup then treat the competition with utter contempt by playing a weakend team in the last 32.
I hope we beat them to 4th place and that will teach them that when in a cup always go out to win and dont put all your eggs into one basket- O'Neil is a clown

Spurs have the CC Final on Sunday and are still in a relegation battle.
Villa - I agree - was a strange one. But the fact that they chose to blow it is bad news for us.
They now have one target left this season 4th place. And they will put everything they can into it - starting Sunday against Stoke.
We are having to rely on them dropping 7 or more points whilst we take something close to the maximum.
Nothing we've done this season suggests we are capable. Apparently our longest winning league run is 3 - THREE !!!!- games.

[quote]MARTIN O’NEILL said sorry to Aston Villa fans yesterday — by inviting nearly 300 of them to dinner!
O’Neill has been under fire for leaving eight first-teamers at home for the UEFA Cup defeat at CSKA Moscow.
Some supporters who paid £1,500 for the trip to Russia were angry about boss O’Neill’s decision.
But now the club have offered to host a slap-up meal for all 295 travelling fans at Villa Park.
And O’Neill will be there with some players. The stunt could cost £15,000 but owner Randy Lerner happily approved the move.

They were 3 days away from Wembley, but not even as far as the Quarter Final of the uefa cup. They're only being realistic. There are still some very good teams left in it. Maybe if they'd played on the Tuesday it would have been a different story....but Thursday, with a Cup Final at the weekend?Wayno wrote:Sorry but I cannot understand the spuds mentality, are they saying that the beer cup is bigger and more important than the uefa cupHow fucking daft
One of my best mates has travelled to see them play in the Ukraine, Holland, Italy and Poland this season. I haven't had a chance yet to find out whether he was happy to see them effectively opt out of the competition at this stage....
