Clichy vs Gibbs?

Post by hanny73 »

I've just back from the game today and thought that Gibbs had a cracking game at left back - was does everyone else think?

I don't think Clichy has had the best seasons - do you think this will make him up his game?

at times he looked as complacent as clichy can be. but don't forget we also have a. traore. 8) oh and by the way, gibbs used to be a left sided midfielder. so he obv has a lot to learn still. but yeah, decent game. :barscarf:

I thought he did well too, it's definatly some competition for Clichy but I prefer Clichy for now as I think he's just having a bad spell, he's still a class act.

Gibbs impressed today

but

He panicked a bit when he was in a forward position after a run in the second half, tried to take on a load of Burnley players and lost the ball.

As a backup full back he is worthy of a place in the squad, and he is at a young age so he should improve.

With the more attack minded Traore and Botelho back next season, left back and left wing are strong positions for us.

Personally I believe clichy to have a good engine and gives us gusto going forward but defensively he is quite poor, gibbs looks a good prospect but we have a long way to go to have someone of the class of evra for example

fair enough, but evra got turned inside out by lennon in the beer cup final the other week, so he doesn't exactly walk on water.

I wouldn't mind seeing Gibbs in some league games as Clichy has been poor recently.

Clichy on form is better though .

Clichy gets playing ahead of Evra for France.

They are very close imo. Clichy was the best last season, Evra the best this season.

I am a fan of clichy don't get me wrong but his crossing has let him down this season and he has made a few mistakes that costs us points even last season against the likes of birmingham he made crucial errors, it could be he doesn't get cover from the right sided midfielders and enough talk from central defenders but nonetheless he has a lot of improving to do, saying that I still rate him.

Clichy's main problem this season is having Nasri playing in front of him rather than Rosicky.

Nasri doesn't have the same defensive discipline on that side that Rosicky did and it has left Clichy exposed at times and has subsequently affected his confidence. Clichy is a high class act who will get back on track sooner rather than later.

I really like Gibbs, kept an eye on his progress since the Emirates cup game against Inter Milan a couple of years back. I like his aggression and fealessness. He plays (very well) in midfield for England , so his real position may end up as left side of midfield.

Not entirly convinced when we are desperately chasing 4th place but certainly think giving Clichy rest against teams that are not very good or have poor wingers would have been a good idea. I don't think Arsene rates Gibbs at the moment or else Clichy would have got rested
