When you say he is now offering £80-or-quits, I take it that means he will pay out £80 to you if we reach the Final if you take him up on this, and "forget" the earlier £50?Eboue-Why? wrote:I have an annual £50 bet with a CFC fan over who will finish highest in the Premiership. Assuming we don't claw back the 9pts that we're behind, he's now offering £80 or quits on the result of the Semi Final.
What would you do boys and girls?!?!
Let's assume that £50 is now lost, so if you don't take him up on the bet, you'll have to pay this out if or when it loses.
What is on offer now is that you are being asked to risk another £30 to get £80 paid out for a profit of £50. Those are odds of 5/3 (2.67) for us to reach final, whereas the bookies at the moment will give 6/4 (2.50) on the same thing, that's £75 payout for £45 profit.
So, even though it's an extra fiver, your mate isn't exactly offering you a opportunity! We also have to get past Hull first which is part of the bet, and the bookies will adjust the odds further down assuming we pass that hurdle. Once we do - and we will have home advantage - the odds on us to progress will be more like a pick'em, so that £30 might return you £60 in total at the bookies.
So my advice is - if you're mate's still up for exactly the same offer after the Hull game, take it, you will be getting the better of it, so for now just sit tight

And if he does take you up on it then.. keep him close in future
