As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Yes, Arsh was outstanding on Saturday (and but for those four stitches courtesy of Blackburn morons) he would have taken the pen). He has known skills and experience and is class. And that goal! But for me Song was MOTM because his excellent contribution was less expected. He ran and ran, tackled so well, produced some excellent passes and made our midfield look stronger than it has for a long time. That's a set of strong performances from a young, committed lad growing with every game. I can't wait to see him sharing the midline with Fab. I rate him and hope to watch him often in the side.
I think most of us have rated the likes of Song, Diaby, Bendtner and, to a lesser extent Denilson, in the past, but the problem seems to be that these top drawer performances are the exception rather the rule.
The fact is that they are just not consistent enough. My guess is that Song will be full of confidence after saturday, but this leads to complacency, a lack of focus, and more mistake riddled performances.
Have you being watching Song at all? His contributions have improved enormously and he IS now consistent and has had excellent outings. Praise where praise is due. You sound pessimistic about the fringe crop showing huge commitment (diaby is far more reliable) and NOW is the time to praise and encourage. Pity that we lack verses for them during a game. They must feel unnoticed by us so-called fans whne they play so well and none of us yells a credit. Compare how much Lundberg's performances improved from the moment we began singing about his red hair! Come on - don't be negative - shout out that we see and love it when they do play well. I'd have liked as much noise for Song on Saturday as we did to encourage Nick....
Freddie was a very consisetnt performer. I am confident that his goals and assists tally to games ratio would be very acceptable reading.
I don't mean to be overly pessimistic. I just dont think some of these players are of a high enough quality to have us challenging for the league.
Granted that there have been some good performances by some of these "fringe" players but I stand by my point that they are nowhere near consistent enough.
The positive attacking play of Song and Denilson, on Saturday, was a revelation. I join you in hoping, fellow gooner, that this will become a regular feature of our team. I am just not as convinced as you. (yet...?)
