I don't see why this has turned into the thread it has, he was merely asking people to observe a minutes applause for those who died.
It was after all an incident that could easily have happened at any high profile game in the 80s (except for Highbury becaus we had no fences). If you can't do it for football reasons at least do it out of common decent humanity.
As for Heysel, didn't we have some barney there in 1980?
Same shit stadium, same common or garden hooliganism from the 80s, same pussy arse policing from the Belgians and poor segregation.
Again, could have happened at any high profile game in the 80s.

Wide cross section of opinions voiced on this to date and my thoughts are somewhere in the middle -
yes hillsborough was a terrible thing to happen but how long is it going to be rammed down our throats (I have exactly the same thoughts re munich btw). It isnt that I feel that the scousers should forget or move on but they shouldnt feel that the rest of the footballing world needs to be still feeling their grief 20 bloody years later - it is their grief and maybe they will always carry it with them forever and they should feel the right to have a minutes silence/applause at their own matches if they want to but I do not see the logic of having it at a match that they are not involved in
As well as that you cannot get away from the fact that they show zero respect to the mancs re munich and have quite enjoyed taking the piss over it so how can they expect respect in return from anybody ? The fact that they also caused heysel is also always there in the background and of course they tried to replicate hillsborough a few seasons ago when they attempted to charge the gates at champs lge final in athens which also counts against them.
Of course we all feel sorry for those who died and the families they left behind - it was an avoidable incident that was caused largely, in my opinion at least, by those scousers that came down late and caused the crush forcing the gates to be opened and of course the sad thing is that it was the fans that turned up in time and were at the front were the ones who dies

Augie, unlike Munich Hillsborough did change football forever. It isnt that I feel that the scousers should forget or move on but they shouldnt feel that the rest of the footballing world needs to be still feeling their grief 20 bloody years later
Surely you should notice that by the very stadiums you sit in now?
Perhaps that's why it still gets talked about?
Ditto, I would rather pay my respects via a minutes silence rather than applause. I don't give a fuck who was at fault. 96 people died that day because they went to a football match, that alone should unite everyone so bollocks to the petty squabbling.U.F.G Anfield '89 wrote:i've always hated this minutes applause thing, minute silence is a far better way to show respect.

It was an avoidable incident because they should never have had fences at football matches in the first place.it was an avoidable incident that was caused largely, in my opinion at least, by those scousers that came down late and caused the crush forcing the gates to be opened and of course the sad thing is that it was the fans that turned up in time and were at the front were the ones who dies
It was avoidable because they should have delayed the kick off due to traffic problems and problems with fans entering the ground, as they do post-Hillsborough.
It was avoidable because Liverpool should have had the bigger end, because they are the bigger supported club.
And as for the police, they are as cuntish on match days today as they were then.

The applause is better.tel wrote:Ditto, I would rather pay my respects via a minutes silence rather than applause. People are always inclined to spoil a minutes silence with noise, which they can't do with applause. This one shows it can be as approprite as the silence.

Also does no-one ever fear they might accidently drop one during a minutes silence?
Bojde... We'll show respect. We are human. We understand the suffering. You've an amazing set of supporters. But don't feel your up on the moral high ground. I watched that demolition of United. I saw the planes in the crowd... that's wrong. End Of.BOJDE LFC wrote:Those fans were shithouses and were a disgrace. Doesn't mean you have to be though.
I'll show the same respect as I did at OT for the Munich disaster. God rest their souls Munich and Hillsborough.

And also perhaps our Scouser 'friend' would like to explain how, after what happened 20 years ago, they still tried to storm the turnstiles at our place in the Quarter Final?jamjc64 wrote:A tragedy caused by their own fans, but they still didnt learn when they tried to storm the champs league final in Athens.
the problem i have is that it is never a Liverpools fans fault they is always someone else to blame.
nether the less a bad move by the fa
Sorry but you can't expect us all to bow down to your requests if you're gonna persist in behaving like village idiots.

Another minutes silence today!
Who was this for...........Benitez's cat?
Take some responisbility for Hillsbrough and Heysel and then the rest of the world may take you seriously.
Happy to sing "Always look on the runway for ice" etc but hate having a word said against your lot.
Fuck of Bodje, the world is bored of your "woo us" attention seeking.
Oh and you're sense of homour isn't all that either despite what Tarby tells us.
