Arsenal v Chelsea FA Cup Minutes Applause

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

So how many of YOU went to Spurs vs Arsenal semi final of League Cup in 1987? Not the replay, but the second leg game on the Sunday?

I was in the away end that day with loads of other Arsenal fans.

We got there early, about 50 minutes before the game, and we had tickets.

We were put into the caged pens behind the goal, and instead of letting us go where we wanted, the police and stewards held us in one of the poens until it was more than full.

Their idea was to keep it that way and then only when absolutely full to bursting let us across the terrace into the next pen.

It was no joke. I was so crushed that my feet were off the ground and my ribs started hurting.

All the fans were shouting at the police and stewards to ope the gate to the next pen, but they took no notice. In fact, that is not true.

They took notice, and just laughed at us.

Eventually they opened the gate, but it was close.

I reckon we were only minutes from a Hillsborough style incident that day, perhaps less.
Mate, absolute carnage that one, mental scenes, one of our best away days ever. We were seriously tightly packed in that night & I genuinly feel sorry for anyone crushed at the front but we were all stuck there for hours so it could never have been as closely intense as Hillsbourough could it. I just never agreed with fencing full stop & full respect to Highbury for never getting involved. Who knows, we might still have terraces if they'd never had fencing.

As for Liverpool, I think its a bit c*ntish people blaming their fans. They were'nt the only one's trying getting into games without paying, the report shows poor policing that day & it's not as if Liverpool fans plotted to kill their own is it!!!!!!!!

Finally, nobody likes to see anyone die of cancer but I would'nt expect Jade's family to be looking for some kind of natoinal bereavement either. Everyone's heart went out to Liverpool that day but they should'nt be banging on about it for our game against the Chavs in 2009.

What about our lad who got killed in 1982 at the West Ham match? one death is as bad as 96.
I was talking about the afternoon game on the Sunday, but you are right, the night game midweek was packed too.
Apologies mate, what a muppet! Did'nt read your post correctly
& certainly did'nt realise the sunday match was as packed.

I don't think I'd ever experienced a terrace as packed as the wednesday night game 2nd replay but take your word that the sunday game was stupidly packed too if not even more..

this is a hypocritical comment. What if i said the same about hillsborough minute applause: Why does that even matter? We had a minutes silence at Highbury I think as did every other club that day....

What he said had nothing to do with the topic therefore being irrelevant.

What are you on about? this was your response to being asked do you lot have minute silence for munich.

your a hypocrite.

and clearly trying to take some moral high ground, as i said earlier:

Yes the minute will be respected and should be.

But do we need to be told to do so?

You are taking the high ground deliberatly to antagonise. (You’ve been here before, and you were clearly hoping for the reaction you got).

I really could go on a rant at you, but wont rise to the bait.

The minute will be respected, AND,

if AFC supporters will applaude in semi-final, which will be "the sun" title next day? AFC supporters booed the memory of hillsborough in 1989 they were found totally guilty of inventing insane behaviour liverpool fans'....after 1 week they will notice this title "We lied...We're sorry...the booos were for ebouè"

Who reckons we ignore the mouser from now on? He only gets on here to wind us up and start all the Hillsbrough/Heysel stuff anyway.

I have no problem with the FA or the Mousers or whoever remembering an anniversary of a tragedy. I know the vast majority of Gooners will respect the minutes tribute. 8)
Yo the man DB props for restoring some balance to this thread!

Bodje can I just say this??? I agree with DB we have had some right fuckin pricks on this forum such as Panto etc. who only came on to spout complete shit, but you are the exact opposite and I would sit down and have a pint with you and hopefully enjoy a bit of banter.............BUT,

be very careful before havin a pop at the mods, this is not a sterile environment, this forum is meant to reflect the terraces as they tend to reflect real life therefore there is humour, banter, opportunity and rewards for the successful, but unfortunately and unavoidably it also has it's darker side, namely violence/abuse, death, base humour, racism and of course the potential to have you hugging strangers or rip your guts out!

so we will not condone the same things that are no longer acceptable on the terraces which is stuff that tends to be against the law anyways such as racism, incitment etc but apart from that this place is exactly the way it is intended, the way we like it and therefore the way it shall remain!

as far as your post goes, I hope you know where I stand as I already said that I agreed with DB's post and I don't really blame your fans for Heysel as it was the Italians who started it and they were at it the previous year too, and it's not like yous kicked a load of fans to death, as it was a crumbling shithole of a stadium and the wall collapsed!

but I would like to pick up something that Augie said which I have also brought up in previous debates with L'pool fans, namely you bang on about Hillsborough for which your fans were definately culpable, yet in Athens yous did exactly the same thing  :banghead: which shows that a number of your fans don't give a flying fuck about anybody but themselves let alone 96 people who died 20yrs ago and it wasn't just a couple of scumbags as hundreds and hundreds of fans with genuine tickets didn't even get in!

I might take some stick for this but if I hadn't been a Gooner I probably would've been a "Scouser" cos an awful lot of my mates are, they come over every year to play Linfield which are my local team where Michael Owen made his debut and yous were sort of my second team in that I would've have preferred yous to win the league rather than Utd or the Chavs but that all changed last season at the CL tie at the Grove, your fans were a absolute disgrace!

There we all were havin a drink on the Drayton Rd. as we always do and your lot started peltin the police made worse by the fact that they were police women made even worse by the fact that they were sittin on police horses at the time   cue loads of coppers comin down on everyone and closin the pub and the offy beside it so we couldn't even have a decent pint before the match :banghead:

yet everyone else is expected to automatically grieve for you, we've even had links on this site to I think it was Red and White Kop or something where there was a thread suggesting that our club was a fuckin disgrace for even contemplating a 20th anniversary kit for the 26May'89 title decider, because basically nobody was allowed to celebrate anything from that year....... I mean WTF is goin on there???

I really hope you understand Bodje that it's that (condescending it has to be said) attitude and that alone is the reason that you got such a harsh reaction to what seemed a pretty innocuous request which I'm sure rattled you a bit cos you've made very few enemies and earned a bit of respect since you started posting on here which I certainly hope you continue to do!

P.S. you know very well that we are among the most easy going and classiest supporters in the league, and there is no way we would disrespect your tribute or anyone else's for that matter :!:

Point taken. I'm not condoning what some of our "fans" did at Arsenal or anywhere else (it was a disgrace), but I disagree with many people on here about what really happened at Hillsbrough and that most likely wont change. If it was up to me (and many other kopites) there would be no minutes applause at the semi, but the FA insist. I have not come on here to 'antagonize' people, I was just making a plea to some at Wembley who may follow like sheep if a couple of idiots boo. Hopefully wont be a problem though. 8)

firstly, wayno your a man after me own heart and i agree with you whole-heartily.Every season they bring out the hillsborough thing and there expect everyone to roll over and boo BOLLOCKS! There own fans cause the disaster, not the police or god,all because there rather sit in a pub drinking than getting to the game on time. It's about time the scousers give it up and move on as the vast majority of the country really couldn't give a monkey's arse about it anymore. As stated before the so-called wonderful scousers don't show other clubs who had tragedies the respect there think there deserve i.e juve, manure etc or is it a one way thing.
That scouser to come on here and give the crap about respect etc to be honest FUCK OFF,we don't care and i for one if i get to wembley i WON'T be clapping or be silent as i be singing for MY club no-one else's,so go back to lime st and take your crap with you as until liverpool fans own up to the FACT that there caused the tragedy and take the blame instead of blaming everyone else then maybe you might get a little bit of respect.Maybe liverpool would like to compensate the teams who lost out on income from playing in europe as because of them again english teams got banned and in some ways hindered the progress of english football.
so scouse scum don't go bleating on other clubs forum's as we don't care and p.s give the stole p.c back you used to write on the forum with.
