Hi all
Apologies for the third email inside a week, but we have lots of games coming thick and fast, so lots of things to tell you about.
Firstly, the Man City game this Saturday. The Rocket will be open as usual from 12noon, showing Blackburn vs Spurs before we head to the ground for our game. After our match, we'll be back in The Rocket, showing the Liverpool game. We also have excellent news on Rocket prices! A few people talked to us about the prices after the Blackburn game, so we took this up with the Rocket management, and have good news to report. 4 pint pitchers are back, at £11 for Carlsberg, Tetleys or Strongbow and £12 for Kronenbourg. In the past, when it's been busy and they have run out of pitchers, you could no longer get the cheaper pitcher prices. However, not any more, they will still pour 4-pints into 4 glasses and charge you the pitcher price. So this is effectively a "4 pints for £11/12" deal - make sure you mention this to the bar staff if they do run out of pitchers. Soft drinks have also had a price reduction (£1.40 1/2 pint draft soft drink, £1.50 1/2 pint Fruit Juice), and the people at The Rocket have compared their prices to other pubs in the area, to ensure they are as cheap, if not cheaper. Obviously, it will never be as cheap as Wetherspoons, but we'd hope you think the atmosphere in The Rocket is better than Wetherspoons!
After the Man City game, we have Villarreal away. We will be taking over the O2 Academy Islington (which is here - http://bit.ly/UP8m ), to show the game. Doors open at 6:30, and we have beer deals all night. It will be free to get in, although we'll be running a bucket collection on the night, with all proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust. Those that were at the Academy for the Liverpool game last year, or even the CL Final in 2006, will know how good the atmosphere there can be - so put it in the diary and come along.
FA Youth Cup Semi Final V Man City; After a close 1st leg, we take a 2-1 lead into the 2nd leg which is being played at The Emirates Stadium on Weds the 22nd April, KO 7pm, lets hope it will be a great night for the kids. Arsenal have made it really easy to get tcks for the game with discounted admission for members of the Arsenal where they will simply activate your membership card - £3 for adults & £1 for kids - simply click on the link for full details on arsenal.com: FA Youth Cup Ticket Info
And don't forget, head for the North Stand lower, Blocks 9 & 10 so we can all sit together and create a bit of atmosphere for the kids.
OK, more on Villarreal at home and the FA Cup Semi Final game soon.

Good on REDAction for getting this place so we can all hang
I still think the beer price is too expensive, its not about how cheap they are locally. They're a student bar so should keep their prices to what they normally sell at. All they've done now is agree not to rip us off as much as they were trying to. The pitchers were originally a tenner flat. They charge around £1.50 for a pint to students.
My problem is that they are clearly milking the fact that we use that bar. As can be seen by the sheer volume of screens that they now have around the place, the fact they got a public licience to show the football. They would not have been able to do any of that if it were not for our cash.

Have you been in The Rocket on a non-match day to confirm that price of £1.50 a pint?
Even if it is true there is no way that the licensing authorities would allow 'grown-ups' to pay 'student' prices if you get my drift.
Both the licensing authorities and the OB would not stand for major discounting especially to Football fans.
I was involved in some of the original discussions when setting up the orignal agreement and both the council and OB who were in attendance were adamant that they would not grant the licence if prices were not kept at least around the local average.
At least by getting the screens in and getting the relevant licence they are re-investing at least part of the profit to increase our enjoyment etc.
Oh and the original licence was paid for in advance of any knowledge of how successful the bar would become.
I think with the return to more sensible prices they have at least listened and struck the right balance.

I used to work for Pepsico. The stuff that comes out of those funny hoses is called post mix. The syrup that goes in there costs about 2-3 p per drink, the rest, water, co2, equipment etc would cost less than that so a pint of Coke will cost about 5p to the bar.TheOne2Smooth wrote:Still a piss take on a pint of coke almost 3 quid no wonder people drink drive at them prices!!!!
