i think it will catch on aslong as the club dont give up on it. psycologically it will just be engraved in our heads the more times we hear it and that way it will seem its our conscious decision to choose to sing. its better than saying here you go folks heres the club song sing it and make some atmosphere for us. i say in the nxt 2-3 seasons if the club keeps playing it and we win something or an important game is won and that song is played we shall automatically associate arsenal with it.
not ussually the boards or whoevers biggest supporter but on this one they made a good choice, it will catch on given time. plus i like it and i'd never heard it before and im 18 hard demo to appeal to but that song if sung passionately definetly would work.

This is a classic catch 22.
Everyone agrees we need an anthem or something to improve atmosphere at home.
The club agrees but in doing so has somehow managed to alienate the "wannabe ultras" if the club had not done anything we would all complain that they dont care. Im not thrilled that we were spoonfed an anthem that we didnt pick, but on the upside its a good song that would work if sung with passion.
Sure it sounds commercial for the club to give us a soundtrack of sorts but il take that any day than the deafening silence on a dire 0-0. Plus were not exactly the most resourceful club musically not a patch on the liverpools and celtics on their european nights.
Saying it wont work a month into its intro is abit harsh. If they stick at it in 30 yrs time my kids wont remember when we didnt sing wonder of you before kick off.

I agree in as much as it might work after a long period of time when there are enough fans with no baggage relating to an anthem Just as fans seem to pick up merchandise and changes to the, ahem, "matchday experience" (Thank you, Mr Edelman!).
But for some, at least me, this not a catch 22 situation. It is very simple.
The club DO NOT CARE whether there is a bear-pit atmosphere inside our ground. They have proved this by:
1. Not designing the stadium in a way that made stands clear and individual.
2. Not addressing the acoustics (in relation to above point) - as there is a redaction section to my right, 4 blocks away which I cannot hear a thing from.
3. Not allowing season ticket holders to buy season tickets next to the away fans behind that goal, thus potentiall creating a new clock-end - something some of us wanted as, we (I) chose to go in there in the first place because of the better atmosphere.
4. Not taking seriously the overall evidence that standing is safe and on a limited basis, would not only provide to those people who wanted to stand something, would also provide a magnificent backdrop for the stadium.
5. The small things: Identity - Quadrants?? The Clock inside the stadium??
In addition to the club, can we just not accept that there are a large proportion of people who have no interest in creating a decent atmosphere. What they want is a large section of people to do it for them.
Isn't that what the terraces did??
The club, with this anthem and the annoying PA shit, are throwing scraps to us morons - and we are supposed to be grateful? The anthem is at the lower-end of solutions to the atmosphere problems. The club could have taken some real strides but chose not to, concentrating instead on getting club level right - where incidentally if you're an away fan, it appears your untouchable!
I know that I have put alot of "WE" in this when I really mean "I" because of course I can't speak for anyone else - it's just a feeling I get from others in things that they mention.
I am very disappointed with the Arsenal.

WELL I CAN CERTAINLY SAY THAT YOU SPEAK FOR ME ON THIS SUBJECT GALASSO.
I HAVE MADE SIMILAR POINTS IN THE PAST AND THE TRUTH IS IF THE CLUB REALLY CARED, THEY WOULD HELP US DO SOMETHING CONTRUCTIVE ABOUT THE ATMOSPHERE - NOT TRY AND PALM US OFF WITH ALL THESE GIMMICKS.
REDACTION, AS FAR AS I CAN GATHER, ARE TRYING IT'S BEST BUT ALL THE CLUB ARE DOING IS PAYING LIP-SERVICE TO THEM.
LIKE YOU SAID GALASSO, ARSENAL PREFER TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE PATRONS OF CLUB LEVEL (NOT SO CO-INCIDENTALLY, THOSE WITH MORE MONEY) THAN THE MAJORITY OF IT'S FANS

To the above two posts i agree wholeheartedly if you've ever seen any of my previous posts then you would also see that i am not the clubs by which i mean the boards, biggest supporter and neither am I a Kroenkite or a Deanite. I personally feel the club are greedy bastards who dont give a toss about us(normal working class born and bred 3rd generation fans) They show absolute bewilderment of what an atmosphere is or should be and it doesnt help that there is a large majority of club level bankers or tourists and other prawn sandwich munchers who think singing is a) beneath them b) those who do sing are beast like council estate hooligans who somehow managed to get into the ground.
Now that we've established that the club are wankers and club level bankers are twats. What we can do is try and take initiative and by whatever means and take those scraps the club feeds us and make a gourmet meal. If we create an anthem that we can get behind then it will serve only to boost the atmosphere and if that works then perhaps the club would would see that if they make the fans happy the more likely we are to put up with ridiculous prices.
The club dont care and thats the truth but we care as fans so if were going to sing and better our atmosphere it will be for us as supporters and the players. Also on your 5th point i also feel having quadrants and such removes our identity id prefer they had something to do with our club rather than random colours.

Anthem
:SPUDMASHER wrote:Kheoz....I agree with much of what you say but I think it is a little unfair to brand the directors as greedy. Especially when the do not take a wage from the club

Our Directors not Greedy Oh please ,let me have some of what your smoking pal.
The Anthem is shit it will never ever ever catch on ,some Arsenal fans have intelligence and will not be brain-washed .
I see my old chum IHH doing one of spectacular u turns on the subject as well now,how typical.
But remember not to call the directors greedy money grabbing barstewards !

Right i have had enough of Arsenal's bloody anthem, i now say lets have god save the queen and be done with it
if we did have that i think every other club would hate us
Right everyone on the count of three, one.. two.. three...
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and Glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen!
thats it i have gone mad!
