A lovely match report from the Wigan website
If it had happened the other way round then I don't have any doubt that we'd have all been on here complaining that Gibbs should have gone..... And they did hit the inside of the post from the free kick..... Yes, we won 4-1 (and also hit the post ourselves) - but 2 goals were at the death and maybe you can understand why they'd be a bit gutted....?

I agree with that MK but it was more borderline than outrageous and I'm certainly glad to take it cos luck is not something that usually goes our way, and to be fair to Bruce he maintained his dignity in the aftermatch interview once his heat of the moment touchline rage had subsided and was actually quite pramatic about itMK Gould wrote:If it had happened the other way round then I don't have any doubt that we'd have all been on here complaining that Gibbs should have gone..... Yeah, fair play to Bruce for the interview.Belfast Boy wrote:I agree with that MK but it was more borderline than outrageous and I'm certainly glad to take it cos luck is not something that usually goes our way, and to be fair to Bruce he maintained his dignity in the aftermatch interview once his heat of the moment touchline rage had subsided and was actually quite pramatic about itMK Gould wrote:If it had happened the other way round then I don't have any doubt that we'd have all been on here complaining that Gibbs should have gone..... Bruce took it like a man, unlike the fella that wrote the report!
I was slightly surprised that Bruce was so graceful, but if I remember correctly he and Wenger apparently get on well (hence all the loan deals to Brum.)
Anyway, the result was the right way to start an important week for us.
GO ON YOU GOONERS!

Bizarre... read the report in the news of the screws this morning and it was virtually identical.
How comes whenever we win with a dodgy decision, it's a "london" conspiracy, or the "top four" are "protected" by the FA?
Yet, when we lose by a dodgy decision, we're a bunch of moaning french pussies who can't take a "man's game".
If Wigan want to know why they lost the game, look at Arshavin's goal - shit defending, a blind ball played to one of the most lethal finishers in our team.

Sorry guys but those of us that actually went wouldn't disagree too much with the report. Arsenal weren't at the races in the first half and were completely outplayed and outfought. The midfield was overrun, we were trying to play the ball across the back and getting caught out and we couldn't keep hold of the ball.
Second half was slightly better. Theo's goal galvanized the whole team and when RVP and Ade came on we actually started to perform like we know we can. Wigan upped the tempo again after our 2nd goal and it was only after the third goal that we could breath a sigh of relief.
Gibbs could easily have gone. We were standing there waiting for the red card. And had the resultant free kick not hit the post and bounced out, there was no way that we would have survived.
Denilson, Bendtner and Gibbs had indifferent games. Song was as average as Denilson and only improved when we turned it on for that last 30 minutes. Big game from Toure.
The boys dug in, didn't concede a 2nd goal, and eventually turned it.
One message to the Wigan admin - TURN DOWN THE BLOODY TANNOY - YOU CAN'T HEAR YOURSELF THINK.

PS. For all those that couldn't make it and stayed in London - it was brilliant sunshine and there wasn't a coat in sight.

Am I the only one who thought that Gibbs was fouled first in the aleged "sending off" incident

Valencia made the most of little contact but I've seen players sent for less - by bad referees.
The one thing everyone has missed is that Valencia was not in total control of the ball, it was ahead of him, and he was chasing it, not in control of it, and so it was not a goal scoring opportunity. That is a yellow, not a red. Wigan feel harshly done by, and most fans would, but the ref actually got the decision totally correct.
