Arsene no longer needs to buy a defensive midfielder

I cannot believe you have genuinely written this article. Are you suggesting that in just a few games Denilson and Song have transformed from woeful to wonderful? Because you only have to go back half a dozen league games to find this dire patch that you mentioned where we drew 0-0 with Fulham. To suggest that these two players are now Arsenal quality just because we have started to win games is naive. If you look at the long range goals we have conceded against us this season it tells you alot about our absence of a defensive midfielder to pressure opposition players around the box. As recently as Tuesday night we needed Song to be closer to Senna (and on more than the occassion where the former scored) and this season we have seen long range goals come in against us from several players including Leadbitter and Geovanni to name a couple. Admittedly, not every long range goal can be stopped through a defensive midfielder but I certainly feel that a more competent one would limit the number we concede and the number of long range shots that come in. I personally think that both Denilson and Song are decent prospects at the moment and have the potential to be true Arsenal players in the future but we desperately need a top quality defensive midfield player to give Fabregas the freedom to play the football that he plays so well. Thus, the pair should be mere squad players at the moment, watching and learning from a world class defensive midfielder as they would have done had Diarra or Flamini still been here today. As it is, they have left, and so Wenger definitely needs to get a new defensive midfielder in the Summer transfer window, but this does not mean Song and Denilson need to be sold as several people are praying. Only then can this restrictive water evaporate (not too much can evaporate in a drought) leaving us with the perfect Emirates grass for the Arsenal to win some trophies.

Well. to be honest, the article was written slightly tongue in cheek to exercise my literary muscles rather than to praise Song and Denilson too much. Whilst I do believe that they have improved immensley, I can acknowledge that we need someone like Inler or similar to provide the thrust and defensive quality that we are lacking. I think what I was trying to say was that I felt Denilson and Song had been the butt of a more general discontent and that I appreciated how much they had improved. Hope that clarifies!!

The next 6 weeks are the acid test, a lot of high pressure games where mistakes are likely be punished. If Song and Denilson can mix it with the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney etc then we have to say, perhaps we were wrong and they are good enough.

My suspicion is we are going to have to take a “score more than themâ€

Having watched Song's performance last night I think I am going to stand by my original assertion that Wenger has found a midfield dynamo! I thought Song was immense; athletic, tenacious and skillful. You can't say that about many midfield players. Let's hope it lasts!

C.G. Interesting thoughts, I would agree up to a point. I still feel we need one addtional player in this area, that would help the likes of Walcott, Nasri develop a little faster. I would then consider we have excellent coverage in the event of long-term injury etc.

But like most I am bl***Y inpressed in the improvement.. :) :D

Wednesday night was his best game yet in an Arsenal shirt but he's been crap for 3 years with the exception of the last 3-4 games. I would strongly suggest that we would be pushing for the title if he'd gone out and bought someone to replace Flamini last summer rather than going for the cheap option as per usual. Long may his improvement continue but let's not start prolaiming him the new messiah yet eh?

I'm sorry that you are not able to pen a reasoned argument. I guess your response comes on the back of a Wembley defeat where Denilson had a stinker. Wenger got it wrong by playing Denilson and not Song but it's not actually my fault. Would you like me to send your response to Wenger for him to consider?

Perhaps I am slightly bonkers but I am excited about Song and Denilson
Asked and answered in the same sentence

My opinion is that Song is nowhere near good enough to play for an Arsenal team that maintains it is competing at the top level.
