Finsbury Park was okay after the Villareal game, much better than it is normally.
But, two interesting things:
Arsenal have bought some land opposite Hollaway tube, in effect it is a corridor that leads along side the railway track all the way to the stadium. They have planning permission to convert the spaces under the railway line into shops and make a wide pathway.
Arsenal have also just bought the Metro bar next to Holloway station.
Now this might be doing a 1+1=3, but it is possible that Arsenal, when the recession has turned the corner, decide to hand Metro's over to TFL with the understanding that it is used to create a second, larger, exit for Holloway. Then to make money up, they convert the path opposite leading upto the ground and rent-out the converted railway line shops.
Just a theory, but could make some sense and better than just handing TFL money to convert Holloway and only to find out it's been spent elsewhere. (TFL couldn't gaurantee the money Arsenal gave them would be spent on Holloway and weren't prepared to be told by the club where to spend the money. As TFL has financial 'problems', Arsenal weren't prepared to chance the money getting lost in the system.)

Don't tell them!! That's what I do!!!!Chippy wrote:The Holloway Road thing is a total cock up. Islington made it a condition of planning that the club upgrade the station to take high volumes and asked the club for about £7m. After permission was given TFL said it would cost about £100m and asked Arsenal for it. Rightly the club told them to shove it. It is just typical of this country that we have a 60,000 venue literally between 2 rail lines and it is impossible to get away by public transport.![]()

The above numbers are off the top of my head and probably wrong but you get the picture.
A little tip but don't tell anyone, after evening games walk to the bus stop by the Tollington and get a 29 or 253 to Camden Town, Mornington Cres or Euston. They're pretty quick at that time of night. Not so good on Saturday.

Sometimed the 253 is so busy just to get on (box bus) that you don't even pay. So many people craming in at the front that the driver can't spot eveyone and loads of seat upstairs.

i worked for islington council building control at the time the stadium was in planning, don't get me wrong at the time is still training for a job in IT so all i did was open their mail, which included hard and soft copies of the plans for the stadium. which i spent a good many lunch break browsing. included in it were current people disposal numbers which were in the 10's of thousands of people per hour along with other random items such as the number of pigeons in the area.
they are all viewable at

although the one relating to transport suddenly seems not to be working.

Usually either walk up to Manor House to get on the Picadilly - bit of a trek & in the opposite direction to home but I’d rather be on the move than queuing up - or down to H&I for the Victoria, depending on where my ticket was in the ground.
Either way it’s not all that much of a problem as long as you’re prepared to walk a bit. Most of the twats that always leave early have just spent 90 minutes sitting on their arse so they shouldn’t exactly be tired.

I can see your point. We drive most of the time, never leave before the end, and normally back home (15 miles north of MK) by 630pm for Saturday games.digger wrote:You're all fucking mental, I've only ever had a problem getting away from the ground once when Highbury and Islington was closed due to a fire somewhere else. I walked down to Upper St, caught a bus to Moorgate and was at Liverpool St about an hour after the full time whistle. Meanwhile, the people who left 20 minutes before the end of the game were probably still queuing down Blackstock Road.![]()
If you all try to pile into the station immediately outside the ground, you're going to have problems. If you walk to the next station (FP) and try to get on the same train line, you'll probably find most trains are already full and congestion will ensue.
And they say football supporters are fucking stupid
On Wednesday night we used the Piccadilly line instead. Stayed until Pires left the pitch, went for a pee, strolled back to Arsenal station and were back in Cockfosters by 1040pm. I didn't think that was bad.
