Was Van Persie undroppable yesterday??

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I also don't think that the wing is a particularly strong position for him, nevermind left or right.

He can do a job there though, and he did so yesterday defensively. He actually got a few good tackles in. But going forward he was lost.

Arshavin would definitely have been more effective there, without the shadow of a doubt.
We agree! 8)

That's good... I can get back to watching a re-run of Britain's Got Talent now, on ITV Player.

I should make that my signature... would save me from ever mentioning it again!

I thought he fought well (Van Persie) didn't turn on the style but he was one player who was rolling his sleeves up and battling, Drogba wasn't impressed with him put it that way.

Undroppable?? That's a little of the mark for me, in a game like this you should be playing your best players and he falls in that catergory.

What messed it up for me was trying to match Chelsea like for like in the centre of MF instead of playing our own way.

Arshavin not playing was criminal, it was pointless trying to outmuscle them, Wenger should have set the team up to bamboozle them with quick passing and pace.

Problem was we could never have put together the quick passing game on that poxy heavy, soft rugby pitch that only suited the chavs long ball game.

That's fair enough but then if that was the case then Wenger should have been quick enough to change it and throw Bendtner on with Adebayor to have more of a direct option.

As much as I think Ade is lazy he couldn't really take on Terry and Alex on his own if the team couldn't play it's usual way.

edit: there's no stats site for that. I did it from memory. I got it wrong though, because he actually scored 3 headers. So it's 7-7, with three goals with his left foot coming from penalties.

The goals with his chocolate leg:

Cardiff
Chelsea x2
Hull
Liverpool
Spurs
Newcastle
his second against chelsea was with his left, anyways i'm notcriticising him as a player im just arguing that he ino a winger like everyone else

Agreed. But the lack of a plan B (or at least Wenger's unwillingness to use one) has been a problem since he arrived. Apart from not strengthening the squad, it's possibly the only real fault he has as a manager (ok - that plus his total inability to just own up and say "He's a shit player - sell him..." ).

The chavs were quick to realise the pitch was fucked and sorted their play to the more economical and effective direct route.

Wenger just seemed to freeze and hope beyond hope that all would be well in the world and the footballing Gods would ensure that football played the "right way" would win the day. The plank. :(

G88ner, you right RVP in this formation should have been droped.

This is not slating RVP as I'd much prefer him in a 442 formation. In a 451 there is no place for RVP.
Also I'd prefer him over Adebayor any day but look at Roma away RVP cannot play as the lone striker in a 451

As I've said previously (in another thread) RVP and Ade cannot really partner each other.
Look how good Ade was last year without RVP whilst injured. Likewise, RVP before Ade came back.

RVP is a Bergkamp type of a player. He needs a fast or 'fox in the box player to make runs for him. RVP will open and create space for this to happen.
Adebayor is more of a target man with the added bonus of possing a bit of pace and skill. (likewise so is Bendtner)
These players can hold up the ball (well supposed to if they work for it Ade! :banghead:) and bring other players in. Likewise they can knock (via head or pass) the ball to a fast of fox player.

That said I think both the formation and the team selection was flawed which can only be Wengers fault.
