Summer clear out

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'd be suprised if any of those players are sold; with the possible exception of Silvestre.

We may sign a couple of players, but I expect us to start next season with almost the same squad.

Although, for obvious reasons, I still think that we NEED a holding midfielder and a centre back.

Will we sign a holding midfielder, though?? No, I doubt it.

In a recent interview, Wenger said he was pleased he didn't go for Alonso or Barry because it would have KILLED Diaby, Denilson and Song.

Presumably, that theory - in Wenger's head - still rings true this summer coming, as it did last... so I expect him to stick with the 3 aforementioned players, with Ramsey playing more games next season, too.

Sorry chaps.
Sadly I think you're right about starting next season with virtually the same squad. His comments about Barry and Alonso were incredible but it shows how he's thinking and why we will struggle in the league again next season. We'd all like to see a quality hoilding midfielder and a centre half come in but what we'll get is some bloke we've never heard of who'll be good in 2014.

Sell players like Simpson who are not going to play without a major major injury crises. If we can get a good centreback, sell Silvestere, mostly though it is a case of adding to the squad rather then selling a 19 league game unbeaten team.

out:

Silvestre (too old and fucking useless)
Diaby (always gets niggly injuries and too slow & a Liability)
Denilson (just shit, offers nothing to the team)
Bendtner (don't need him with Ade, RVP, Eduardo & Vela)
Rosicky (just fucked, doubt we will ever see him again)

we need a
Decent experience keeper to challenge Almunia , top central defender and a good CM to help Cesc

I would get rid of Silvestre (just plain crap),Diaby (too injury prone and not worth the waiting) Traore (Gibbs) Senderos (not a brain in his skull) keep Bendtner but AW must buy a striker in the summer.

Wenger gave silly a 2 year contract he refused to give Pires, Bergkamp and a few more so there's a bigger chance you'll see me play up front next season than silly playing anywhere else than at Arsenal.

I would like to have some players left please...its not quite so simple of just getting rid and instantly replacing players...i rate song and denilson...we can get another centre mid in but i wouldnt get rid of them two just maybe loan one out...diaby is also good(will get better-hopefully i shoould say) lets give him one more chance of an injury free season...i would get rid of silvestre and wouldnt be to angry if eboue went. Theres no need for a full clear out...some of u boys are talking 7/8/9/10 men....calm the fuck down!!!!

Happy to keep the lot, with the exception of Adebayor. If, and it is now a big 'if', we can get a few million for him, I'd be happy to see him go, as long as we sign the scariest centre-back imaginable...a laboratory hybrid created from cells from Bould and Adams would fit the bill...

We've been in a situation numerous times this season (now!) where areas of the squad have been right down to the bones. For this reason I don't think we should get rid of anyone but bring in a world class central defender, central midfielder and a goalie.

Anyone leaving would need to be replaced, so having 5 or 6 players leave would mean we realistically would need to bring in 8 or 9 players!

Yes please, with a bit of Keown thrown in also, would look like the character out of the Chain-saw Massacre though.... NICE....

Totally agreed with all the players to get rid of!! Think we need somebody at the back like Lescott or Hangeland, and maybe splash the cash for somebody in midfield ( highly doubtful though ).. :banghead: :barscarf:

franksav63 wrote:I don't know about you, but which players, if any, should be shipped out?

IMO, Fabanski, not good enough even as a number 2, Silvestre, too slow, distribution terrible, (Ferguson rarely gets it wrong does he?), Diaby, to long waiting for his potential to bear fruit, to injury prone, to likely to lose possession in vital areas, (especially our penalty area), Denilson, the most unskillful Brazilian in the history of football. Adebayor, greedy, lazy (please go now.)

In addition to the above, I can also see Senderos going (Wenger obviously doesn't rate him which is why he was sent packing and loaned to Milan) and also Traore (because of the emergence of Gibbs)
Hmm.. after tonight anyone else? AW's big plan is in tatters and the sooner he admits it the better..... experienced players need to the signed and bedded into the team because after tonight the gulf in class is a chasm......

Sell:

Almunia: Would make a great third choice keeper but doubt he would accept it, too prone to mucking up in big games
Toure: If he is willing to be 4th choice then keep him but at this stage, he wants first team football. Be sad to see him go but just not good enough
Van Persie/Ade: One or the other then use the cash to help strengthen the team. Getting a top quality striker wouldn't hurt though, would prefer Van Persie go
Silvestere: Gamble, didn't work, needs replacing
Simpson: Not enough room
Senderos: Unless going to partner Gallas as first choice, sell

Maybe:
Clichy: If he finds his old form then fine, maybe sell if we have a better one lined up
