St George's Day

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just because it's our Patron Saint's Day, it's still no excuse for terrorising the Polish community!

Happy St Georges day.
Saint George (ca. 275/281 – April 23, 303) was according to tradition, a Roman soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian, venerated as a Christian martyr.
So he was Italian, huh?

Combat 18 and the BNP must LOVE hearing that fact!!

Agree with Rebel, it is ridiculous that your saint day has been demonised to this extent. You need to claim it back from the racist scum that have tarnished it.

Happy St George's Day to all my English mates. 8)

Probably due to links with Christianity. ( :?: )

Also noticed later in the text, but not listed to the forum, that in the 15th century St. George's day was celebrated as much as Christmas!
As DB10 Said we need to claim this day back.

Fuck off!

St George was born and bred in somewhere typically English, probably Cambridge or maybe Brixton!

George was granted a sainthood around the 6th Century. When all the Bishops in Europe attended a 'conference' they were instructed to return to their countries and celebrate St George. I think around 70 countries around the world celebrate St George somehow.

He was a Centurion of Palestinian or Turkish origin tasked with slaying captured Christians, he refused so was executed himself.

What did I do!? :?

As legend has it (legends are no more then fokelaw rumours one of which I'm creating) that our very own Saint George choose the red and white cross through his love of Arsenal! It then later became our National Flag.
Fact!

St. George's day to me smacks of copying the Irish. We English should have our own event that means something to us, not some watered down catholic feast day dressed up with knights and dragons.
