THE MYSTERY OF ABU DIABY

Post by goonersid »

I remember thinking after the clge final in Paris that if we'd had Diaby to bring on 20mins from the end, I reckon we would have held on to win. Thats how well the youngster was playing, unfortunately he'd had his leg smashed in an "accident" with a "nice lad" who "wouldn't hurt a fly", a couple of days previously.
So what the fuck has happened to him, he is undoubtedly a more skilful player than Denilson or Song, is it just down to laziness or apathy that he is playing so badly.
He had a great game at Anfield in the qtr final last season, and a couple of very good games away from home this season. So following 2 horror shows against the chavs and the mancs, dare I say he must be due a big performance,I'm hoping this is the case because I have no doubt in my mind that Wenger will play him on Tuesday, but for this miracle to manifest, then Wenger must not stand in the way of divine intervention, by playing him on the left wing, where he has never had a good game.

And that my good man is precisely the problem. We bought the French u-19 midfield talisman who had been running games from CM, and decided that we would fuck him about and drain him of all confidence by putting him on the left wing. Another AW masterstroke of the past 2 years.

When he has played at the head of a 5 man midfield (Fenebahce away, Villa away) he has been different class only to be shoved back out wide when others return

I think the guy is the most clueless man on a football pitch any where in England, and I realise that is quite a statement. If he could remain switched on he has all the ability to be one of the best players in the world. But he seems to think that he is the only person on the pitch. He proved this in semi final against the Chavs when Anelka robbed him and hit the post. He also switched off completely last season in the San Siro. We had just gone 1 up and had a free kick, Fabregas played it to him but he was looking in the crowd!

I think he actually annoys more than anyone else at the club

I dont think Diaby is good enough but playing players in their correct position has to be a must when trying to get a result in football. Isnt it as simple as that?

Agreed, look at how much more comfortable the hapless Eboue looked when played in his natrual fullback position.

Square pegs in square holes as one thread recently said.

The way Diaby played last night I would gladly dig him a hole!

Useless last night, and useless against Chelsea in the Semi. He's far too hit and miss for me, a one in five games sort of player. But then comes his other issue; his injuries. He tends to get a little run of games together, before we know it he's out for 2 or 3 weeks.

Far too casual, dwells on the ball for too long, often picks the wrong pass, and can't really tackle either.

Apart from the odd performance, he has never impressed me. Anyone who thinks he is 'the new Vieira' needs their eyes testing.

I agree 100% that wenger is fcuking the players and team about by playing them out of position but that excuse only carries so far - his ongoing habit of fcuking about with the ball and losing possession is nothing to do with his position  As I have said many times lately the fact that he does not seem to be learning 1 jot from these mistakes is what worries me most and I for one would want him sold in the summer as he cannot improve if he does not see his mistakes or is too godamn lazy to learn from them

By the way how many times did we actually see him on the left wing last night ? Was he out there when o'shea and ladyboy were combining down our left ? Where was the protection he should have been giving to our rookie gibbs ? Being truthful he may have been listed to play left but he spent fcuk all time out there and I agree 100% that wenger will pick him again next tues (and will probably rest him on sat  ) :banghead:

Black, French and lanky are the only things that Diaby and Vieira have in common unfortunately.

Couldn'y agree morw Josh. Exactly the thoughts my friends and I had on Wednesday night. Some of his games this season have been terrible. I recognise that Wenger probaly lones him, but for heavens sake. He is not good enough for Arsenal when it REALLY MATTERS...!!!

:x
