GOALKEEPING PROBLEMS

Post by All_Arsenal_1886 »

I keep reading that Jens Lehmann may be on his way out in January because he isn’t happy with being dropped  , if this is the case we are left with Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski :? .

I like Jens, Manuel and what I have seen of Lukasz, but if we do let Lehman walk out in January we will NEED another goalkeeper, trouble is who is available and at what price? I think Arsene will need to spend big money on a goalkeeper because the price of Goalkeepers has gone stupid for some reason.

In 2001 Arsene spent £6m on Richard Wright from Ipswich Town, I Liked Richard but for some reason never really made it at Arsenal and was moved on :( . So that £6m wasn’t well spent unfortunately, I think we will need something up to £10m to get if not a world class goalkeeper certainly a good Premier League one.

I got so many questions;

1. So who is out there and available?
2. Who would you like to see?
3. Or should we try our hardest to keep Jens?
4. Is Manuel good enough to be 1st choice with Lukasz as his understudy?
5. Should we spend big on a goalkeeper?

Oh what am i worrying about we got Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny from our reserves     . (these are supposed to be the next big thing according to Arsene)

I sort of hope Wojciech Szczesny never makes it into the first team squad :? What would we sing for him   .

Here are the Top 10 most expensive goalkeepers
Gianluigi Buffon £30m  Parma to Juventus, 2001 (No i don't want to spend that much   )
Antonio Peruzzi £10.5m Juventus to Internazionale, 1999
Craig Gordon £9m Hearts to Sunderland, 2007
Fabien Barthez £7.8m, Monaco to Man Utd, 2000
Gianluca Pagliuca £7.5m, Sampdoria to Inter, 1994
Peter Cech £7m Rennes to Chelsea, 2004
Chris Kirkland £6m Coventry to Liverpool, 2001
Richard Wright £6m Ipswich to Arsenal, 2001
Luca Marchegiani £6m, Torino to Lazio, July 1993
Jose Reina £6m Villarreal to Liverpool, 2005
Edwin Van Der Saar £6m Ajax to Juventus, 1999

do feel thats jens will leave in jan,, with the euros coming up that will be jens international swansong so he will want 2 play every sat leading up 2 that,, also feel it is our weakest position on the team at the moment,, not sure who,s out there 2 be bought but a great keeper is worth at least 10 extra points a season and thats the difference between winners and also rans

1) I like the look of the German U21 keeper but not sure he is available. Maybe Boruc?

2) Either of the two above at start of next season

3) Yes, he is still a top class keeper and once fit, I predict the errors will go out of his game. He should be our number 1 the rest of the season

4) Quite clearly no, reliable when on form but nothing more then that and poor so far this season

5) Sure, why not however I will trust the manager on whoever he picks.

We've just gone out and bought one of the most promising keepers in Europe, so buying another one is and should be out of the question. The only issue we have now is what one of our current keepers will start each week.
I'd expect Jens to move on in January. Realistically now I'd rather blood in Fabianski than put an out-of-sorts Jens in for half a season...Carling Cup would be ideal, and keep Manuel in goal in the PL for now..
I do accept that we need a world class keeper, and as much as i like Almunia, he just isn't and the goal on saturday showed the difference between a good and great goalie, as did the Carling Cup Final last year and CL Final in '06..

I'm confident Woo-Kash can become that, but its just how long Wenger will keep him out of the firing line, but there's no crisis at this point..

SHAY GIVEN AT NEWCASTLE HAS ALWAYS IMPRESSED ME AND AT 31, IS EXPERIENCED ENOUGH BUT NOT TOO OLD (JENS) OR TOO YOUNG (FABIANSKI). PLUS HE KNOWS ALL ABOUT THE PREMIER LEAGUE AND HAS INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE, SO HE WON'T BE PHASED BY THE EXPECTATION.

I THOUGHT I READ SOMEWHERE RECENTLY THAT HE MIGHT BE AVAILABLE. IF SO, ARSENE COULD DO WORSE THAN PUT A BID IN COME JANUARY. 8)

I am really worried about the goalkeeping situation. If Wenger has decided (and there is yet to be any evidence to support this) to ditch Jens Lehmann then he has to sign a new number 1 keeper. Almunia is a decent deputy, but he makes too many mistakes to be a number 1. His decision making is woeful - as Saturday proved with the Berbatov chance. Wenger appears to have decided that Fabianski is not ready yet. So that leaves with a problem if Lehmann does go.

Please stay Jens - for this season at least!

If someone hasn't already said it Gomes for psv great keeper and he's not to old neither, he could slip straight into the first eleven.

I think we were after him before being called the Beast
We've had a number of goal keepers on the list for a few years good or unknown but Wenger must of thought differently
Shabban he bought but never lasted long after his broken leg at OT but had a 100% clean record like Matt Poom (not getting into him despite being a clear Arsenal legend ) but got abit more games lol  (i rated this fella)
Taylor youth product who played alot of games for two seasons running (well 01/02 he got 10 league games i remember) & didn't play again getting sold to Villa where i remember him playing once & haveing a good game
Richard Wright lasted only for a season but caught the eye of Wenger during the league cup match against Ipswich at Highbury which we lost, could someone please tell my why he left lol
Lehmann haveing a good record with Arsenal winning the league in his first season at Arsenal without losing in the league after catching the eye of Wenger against Dortmund in 2003 in the CL who replaced an often injuried David Seaman
At times he did make the odd mistake but what keeper doesn't????
Won the FA cup by saving PS penaly in Cardiff back in 2005
Had a brillant run in the CL of course only to be unlucky sent off in the final in Paris
After the final he was never really the same but still makig me laugh (for the right reasons), the start of the 2007/08 season hasn't gone prefectly for him as we know with mistakes against Fulham & Blackburn (& England might i add) but had a good match away to SP in the CLQ & now with injury to be back god knows when
Alummia, i never really rated this guy as my first slighting of him was from the West Stand against Birmingham where stright away he made a mistake that nearly cost us early on
He did however had a good point in his first season with us being the hero in Sheffield saveing a couple of penaltys in the shootout but Jens returning after a spell out took the headlines coming in May
Doncaster again he got the hero badge for Arsenal savieng a penalty again for them in another shoot out but Jens again coming back to be the top dogg (number one keeper) to help the Gunners to the CL final but with him getting sent of Alummia kept the goal mouth empty abit longer for the record until Eto struck (i don't need to get into that story)
The first season at Emirates he played a number of games & lead Arsenal young boys to Cardiff & haveing some great games notely against Liverpool at home & in the CC & FA cup
With the 2007/08 just started he hasn't done too badly playing some big games already & doing well but will Jens break into the team???? or even the Pole if Blondie does injury himself????
Will hope Jens doesn't get sold & hope that all the keepers do well for themselves with Fab playing in the CC & Blondie keeping the goal net as clean as possible till Jens does come back, i really miss him for some reasons must be cos of the training session before the games lol
I'm sure Jens will stay put till the end of the season & tthink sadly he won't be around for the 2008/09 season like i want him to but hey this was the same thing that Seaman was going through & we haave to accept it sometime even if we don't want them to go, it's not like they can play with a walking stick until they die lol
Expericne is needed for our new number 1 if Jens goes

YOUNG BEN-GOONER,

GOOD SUGGESTION. GOMEZ HAD A COUPLE OF GOOD GAMES AGAINST US IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND CERTAINLY HAS AN IMPOSING PHYSICAL PRESENCE.

STATS,

THE REASON WE GOT RID OF RICHARD WRIGHT IS BECAUSE HE WAS PRONE TO MAKING MAJOR MISTAKES (SPURS IN AN AWAY DRAW ON SOL'S DEBUT AND CHARLTON AT HOME 2-4, TO NAME A COUPLE OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD).

THE THING ABOUT BEING AN ARSENAL GOAL-KEEPER - AND WHERE WRIGHT AND OTHERS SINCE SEAMAN HAVE FALLEN DOWN - IS THAT YOU MUST RETAIN YOUR CONCENTRATION LEVELS BECAUSE FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE GAME YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING TO DO. THEREFORE, WHEN YOU ARE CALLED UPON, YOU NEED TO BE READY TO SPRING INTO ACTION AND MAKE THE NECESSARY SAVES.

goalkeeper problems

Post by lb7 »

Igor Akinfeev(cska) is the best young keeper in europe so why not go for him?I think the German keeper is Manuel Neumann(schalke 04)
