MAN U CL THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why 4-4-2?

Anyone remember thinking GG had lost the plot playing 3 centre halves when we had to win by 2?

Agreed Percy. The formation at OT wasn’t necessarily all that bad, the no. of players being asked to play out of position was. As you yourself (well, sort of yourself ) have said in the past there’s not all that much difference between a 4-5-1 & a 4-4-2 if the right players are in their right positions.

RVP as the second striker would drop deep & make it a 4-5-1 when they’ve got the ball & a 4-4-2 when we have it. If he’s not fit then it may well have to be Diaby in that role  but at least he should be better there than on the wing. And too high up the pitch for his constantly getting caught on the ball to hurt us too badly.

As for 3-5-2 augie you could argue we do anyway. What is a 3-5-2 other than a 4-4-2 but with the full-backs overlapping & the wingers cutting inside? I would be a bit wary of our full-backs pushing too far forward too early tomorrow though given a) Ushtd will be looking to hit us on the break & b) we don’t have a DM with the nous to make sure he’ll cover when Gibbs or Sagna bomb forward.

Whatever the case let’s just hope to fuck that Tony Saunders is on here tomorrow night starting an I Told You So thread for saying it would be better to lose the first leg!

Oh my god!

At last someone understands you play one shape with the ball and another without it!

Halle fucking lujah!

On paper, I don't think we are anywhere near good enough defensively to stop them from scoring.....and I can't see us scoring three so I am very pessimistic (that's just me):)

However, there is an element of an omen in a Barca/Gooner final with revenge for 2006, and a meeting with Titi. Also, I do believe in the 'name on the cup' scenario and maybe....just maybe, this is our year, when we really didn't expect it?
Maybe it will go to penalties again..........I don't think my heart can take that!! :barscarf:

But in reality.....I just can't see us doing it. We are not good enough and we have too many players who choose when they turn up.......Adebarndoor being the worst!!

For those who like a bet, I understand Paddy Power are offering 6/1 or 7/1 on Arsenal just reaching the final - great odds for anyone who is an optimist!!

Anfield '89 revisited we need to beat the reigning champions by 2 clear goals......... 2-0 for tonight :barscarf:

I always think we play better as a 4-4-2 so i hope we play that formation

us to qualify £1000 at 3/1

Nasri to bag two again £145 at 66/1

Nasri to get a hat-trick £35 at 300/1

I'll either be gutted, a few quid lighter, not giving a shit about Rome and hungover tomorrow morning or...

ecstatic, a few quid richer, trying to blag tickets to Rome and hungover tomorrow morning

Wenger, you've been telling us this team is good enough all season, the time has come....Arsenal FC to step up to the plate.
