No chance
Just go Arsene

The man is up there with Herbert Chapman as one of arsenal's 2 greatest ever managers. They both revolutionised the club, and football in this country. Chapman was sadly taken whilst at the helm, but this enabled him to go down as a legend. Wenger deserves to be seen in this light, even if he never wins another trophy for us. Much as some people don't like the new stadium, without it, we can forget about ever challenging with Europe's elite again. Wenger is almost solely responsible for that.
The game has changed dramatically in the time since we last won a trophy, with overseas billionaires pumping money into the other big 3 clubs. The fact we're still anywhere near them is nothing short of a miracle. When you then factor in the stadium debt it's incomprehensible. Yet with Arsene we have stayed in touch.
I am also sickened by the lack of loyalty among fans. We waste no time in mercilessly criticising players if they so much as hint they would like to play elsewhere - eg Adebayor. Yet when a manager, who could quite easily have walked into any of Europe's top jobs years ago, goes through a difficult period, people want him out at the drop of a hat. Talk about double standards.
I just pray Arsene gets to decide when his time is up, because if he is sacked, the image of class that football fans associate with AFC will take a severe blow.
Forgive the rant, I'm feeling very emotional after tonight
how DARE you even consider him in the same breathe as Mr Chapman !!!!
None more springs to mind than the unbeaten year, 1-0 up against Man U and Cygan was brought on at left midfield. United equalised.augie wrote:Look if we are all honest here we will agree that tactically wenger has always been shite even when we were winning trophies

Despite deep frustrations with the last 3 seasons I remain pro Wenger. Being disappointed with a semi-final exit in the Champions League was never a worry under Bruce Rioch. It's a measure of the rise in expectations that has occurred under Wenger that people are calling for his head now.
But my support now comes with a caveat. Wenger ABSOLUTELY MUST, significantly strengthen this squad over the closed season if he is to remain a credible figure for Arsenal's broader fanbase. He's tried a certain strategy, it has been successful to a point, but the tactic of relying almost exclusively on developing young players consistently falls short against the very best opposition. We cannot compete with ManUre and Chel$ki while the Arsenal wallet remains firmly shut.
We may not be able to match their spending but we need to purchase at least 3 quality, first team, world class internationals which will give us the strength in depth and mix of youth and experience that we so obviously lack. More of the same next season is not a palatable prospect for most fans.

Where was 'mental strenght' tonight? Where was 'great spirit'? How many 'winners' we had on pitch tonight? "This is our time"? Has he put money on UK to win Eurovision or something?King_Kolo wrote:What would you prefer him to say - "we've got no spirit, they're all losers, no character , we'll never bounce back". Wenger has lost the plot! Anyone who still cannot see it need their head examined...

It's King Kolo, only Lolo at the weekendsaugie wrote:King Lolo I understand where you are coming from re the double standards in loyalty us fans show but the 2 cases that you cite are completely different. Anyway from a personal viewpoint I too would prefer not to see wenger sacked at any stage but at the end of the day it is the club and the progress of the club that is paramount above all else. Wenger has contributed immensely to our club and football in general since his arrival but we have quite obviously gone very much backwards in the last 5 seasons and the goodwill he has built up cannot last indefinitely. Last august I argued that wenger should go this summer if we flopped again this season cos we cannot afford to stand back idly and watch another transfer window pass by as we try to live out arsene's dreamEither he changes his perspective (and that is highly unlikely

) or he has to move on and it is simple as that

I agree, it is all about the progress of the club, and I know things have come to a halt in the last 5 years. My point is that football has changed in that period. Before Abramovich came, we were on the cusp of a dominant period, I am sure of that. I think David Dein said something along the lines of "the Russian firing £50 notes on our lawn" that summed up what happened next. I just belive in the morals of running a football club well, it seems to me Arsenal have always done things a bit differently, with a bit of tradition, and that's part of what makes me love the club. If we sack Arsene, bring in Hiddink/Ancelotti/Capello and start throwing money around, much as it may please some of our newer fans, it just won't feel like Arsenal to me.
And in hindsight, citing Adebayor for my loyalty point was probably not the best idea...

Well I don't see it. You always have points to back up what you are saying so it's quite difficult to argue with you.augie wrote:Me ??? Are you kidding me number 5 ? Unless you are Foxy I guess.

Me? I've just weighed in for the next heavyweight bout but I thought I made a good point/points.

You can definately consider Wenger in the same breath as Chapman, Wenger is an Arsenal legend, and that will never be open to debate.
The scary thing is the tactics that he has chosen at the most crucial stage of the season, and I give him one more season to prove that he has learnt from his mistakes.

Us the Realists have been told over the last 2 months we have been quiet.Well we all knew as soon as we played anyone half decent it would all fall apart. And so it has happened. But we the Realists are wrong and Arsene knows.Wenger has been taught a lesson by Hiddink and now Fergie.Nothing has changed my opinion all this season that Wenger has passed his sell by date.Rijkard is available and Hiddink will be available in november
typical loser of an arguement to resort to swaeringKing_Kolo wrote:Fuck off Calo, I don't post much on here, but I read regularly, and I know how much of a twat you are.Calo wrote:King_Kolo wrote:If Arsene Wenger is sacked it will be nothing short of a disgrace.
