It takes time to get things right and there's no point slating them in public - their confidence is fragile enough as it is, you can see that whenever we concede a goal, we start playing shit and can't string two passes together.

In conclusion - 1 or 2 more years for the gaffer but here's hoping he makes big changes to the squad. It's not even the lack of trophies that gets me, it's the lack of guts, determination, pride, grit etc. All things that you can't buy anyway.

Er, rant over.

These traits that you and the rest of us value so highly are (a) either in the players already or (b) the manager is supposed to instill them but neither is happening. We have all heard this bullshit about the different things wenger looks at in potential signings but all he seems to be buying is lightweight softies without the guts, determination and pride that are so vital everywhere but especially in england with its match intensity :( Whether you like it or not there are faults with this team and squad right now that can only be attributed to wenger and no money excuses or anything else will cover them -

1. The type of players he is buying. As I have said before they are all small, lightweight technical players who dont have the heart or the physique for the fight.

2. A refusal to see that we are way too poor in the centre midfield, centre backs and goalkeepers positions and not make enough efforts to upgrade. We all love arshavin as a player and I really believe that he will be a star but lets be honest here we had other far more pressing needs in the team didnt we ?

3. This 5 man midfield. I remember when we robbed the mancs in cardiff in 2005 playing 1 up front (through injuries if I am not mistaken) and wenger said that day that the formation hadnt worked well and he wouldnt be using it again. Anyway we are now stuck with the system but as bad as the system is, it is his use of it that is driving me nuts  Diaby, Bedtner and Van Persie are not and never will be wingers in a 5 man midfield. Nasri is not and will never be disciplined enough or strong enough to play the holding role in midfield. Cesc is not and never will be pacy enough to play the "in the hole" position and it negates what he is best at which is getting on the ball, facing the opposition and threading those passes through - playing with his back to the goals is not his thing. When you are 3 down in a big match like we were tues night and today persevering with a 5 man midfield is absolute stupidity and his reasoning and competence should be questioned on this.

4. Judgement. Too many players are not good enough and lack the ability and/or brains to improve. Diaby had his 3rd 'mare in as many weeks today and yet he is still doing the very same things time after fcuking time :banghead: Is he not intelligent enough to know where he is going wrong ? Are the manager and coaching staff telling him where he is going wrong ? Either ways with the touch of a rapist and the brains of a rocking horse he is clearly not good enough and cant leave quick enough for me. Players that wenger has lauded this season (greedybayor, almunia, song etc) are nowhere near good enough to be playing regularly for this club and it is sad to see the quality of the team decline to the state that we now find it.   The thing is though that if you are lacking quality and talent to pick from you go with the players that will at least bust a gut for the team and with that in mind I cannot understand why ramsey aint got more playing time but maybe that is just me

Augie, just got back from the game, met Pal Lydersen, what a star, who came over from Dublin to watch today's shite... I feel sorry for him, I nearly had a row at Kings Cross with Chelski scum, got no back up from Arsenal fans... (A joke) anyway, I totally agree with your summary (I sound boring but always agree with your views on the game) I wish you were on The Arsenal back room staff..........

Augie, I don't disagree with much of what you say and I don't think you disagree that much with what I say. The playing people out of position is a farce, and we do lack steel. All I'm saying is that he deserves a chance to sort it out as I don't think anyone else could do better with the available resources, and the whole "four years without a trophy" thing annoys me as there are /many/ periods in our illustrious history when we've gone longer than that without a trophy, without all the Sky Sports newbie plastics moaning.

Their vague excuse is that "well, the game has changed". No it hasn't, it's still 22 men and a ball. The only thing that has changed is that your new hobby isn't giving you the unadulterated pleasure that it used to, because you loved that team more than the club. Maybe it's a good thing to grow up watching them struggle a bit because then when the success comes you don't take it for granted.

I'm not saying there are problems, of course there are, but I'd rather give Wenger a chance to fix them than chuck him out, at the moment anyway.

Wenger is going to get his chance to rectify the problem but I like many others have absolutely no faith in him actually doing so.

Top managers single mindedness is what makes them the top managers, it is also their biggest problem and when they get it wrong it can turn a molehill into a mountain. People like to use the financial situation to protect Wenger but he did a fine job a few years ago with not a great deal then either. Back in the early days he picked up the right sorts of players at low prices. Vieira, Petit, Overmars, Henry, Edu, Gilberto, the list goes on. The other thing he did was move players on who weren’t good enough (although he has always been much less ruthless than other big 4 managers).

Now he has become insistent that these players will make the grade. I think it will take another 2 or 3 years before he starts to contemplate the idea he was completely wrong (and personally I have little doubt that at the moment, he is completely wrong about this squad being good enough). He still believes this squad needs tweaking rather than an overhaul.

Thing is, I am having trouble coming to terms with the fact that Wenger has got in to this situation. It was just unimaginable when we went unbeaten so on that front I can understand why he is struggling to understand what has happened. But it has happened and he needs to face up to it, otherwise he faces the possibility of ruining his saint like reputation at the club he so lovingly built.

To be honest, this season again we had a lot of key players injured for the important games. We played against Chelsea in FA Cup Semi Final and against Man Utd in Champion's League Semi Final with too much experienced players injured at the back. It's the worst thing that could happen, especially against Man Utd and Chelsea who are the best teams in Europe.
But in my opinion, the results against these teams are harsh, there's not so much gap, we're able to beat them (we did it in the league). But there are better than us, that's why we're without trophies since 2005. And we should change something, add 2 experienced players (a center back and a defensive midfielder). But with Clichy, Gallas, Rosicky, Eduardo, Arshavin ... it would have been a much experienced and better squad, and a team able te beat anyone in the world imo.
