It really was a massive national occaision when I first started watching them in the late 60s. I'd go down the town about 7am and buy the programme from the newsagents, (yes, yer local newsagent would sell the FA cup final programme) then wait for the start of Grandstand/World Of Sport about 9am and watch 6 hours of build up to the match while getting more and more excited no matter who the final was between. The first one I have any real memory of is the Chelsea v Leeds final in 1970 which was a classic game, can't remember who I wanted to win but it did'nt matter, it seemed like the most exciting occaision possible and fortunately we were back a year later so all the excitement was more than doubled![]()
This year? I'll probably be in a boozer somewhere so will look at the screen every now and then in the hope that Everton score, if the wee Fulham club are winning my interest will be minimal to say the least. How times have changed
My 1st memory of a fa cup final was the 1967 chelsea v spurs game.
spurs won 2-1
You go back even further than me ****
