I reckon Cesc will go if there is a chance. We must maximise the profit though, but at least we would not be losing a good captain, just a promising player. Very poor v Manure in UCL in my opinion, especially as a captain.
We so badly miss a leader out there, esp when injury prone Bill is out- he may not be captain but he is in my eyes.

Sometimes i wonder if the guys who write these stories actually watch or have an interest in football there is so little sensible logic to what they make up.
This story would be far more believable if they had said it was Madrid that were offering that money, they actually could do with a new midfield playmaker and they are stupid enough to pay that kind of money for a big name even though he has just had a bad season.
Cesc wouldn't get a regular start in the Barca team, they certainly don't need him so why would they pay silly money for someone that would have to spend most of the next few seasons on the bench.

We need to keep Cesc. Wenger wouldn't know what the fuck to do with £40 mil. £40 mil will not win any battles against Citeh, the Chavs etc if they want the same players.
What we need is a technical player with destructive capabilities regardless of age - Senna keeps coming to mind for me, now that his manager is at Real Madrid.
I refuse to believe that the money is not there to buy a top quality CB and DM,
Fuck selling our undoubtably best player. What I find amazing is that we have had better squads than this, and never would have taken money for our best players at that time. yet some of you guys would consider weakening the team when we need to strengthen.

As usual all the papers expect Arsenal to sell their best players and every day we can expect stories about one or another of them??
this would be fine except we tend to resist for a year or two and then completely cave in and let them go ??
Anelka - Petit - Vieira - Henry - Hleb - the list goes on and on.
Im sure Wenger would let Cesc go for £40 million and bring in a 15 year old from the books of a french 2nd division club who is definately going to be the new Zidane?
Adebeyor will definately go and probably to the Chelsea scum - at least he will be in the right place for a greedy good for nothing bastard that he is!!!
The way things are going we will be lucky to get a Europa league place next season anyway - Man City cant keep throwing money at things and not get some success - they are buying big already - chelski's russian looks in the mood to spend money again now his Italian bum chum is there and the scousers will spend again and probably get David Villa??
I hope Im wrong but its gonna be a long summer - and I cant see us spending fortunes to keep up!!

And without the captaincy burden would help too.proudtosaythatname wrote:We need Cesc - but in his original midfield position and not further forward where I thought he looked much less effective
Obviously I would doubt very much whether anyone here would want to sell him & we obviously do not want to weaken the team. The thread just asked a question & it is a distinct possibility that someone will bid. Are we not used to this every year with all our best players anyway- part of being a Gooner!
As Jethro said".. Treat every day as your last, & one day you'll be right..!

I honestly think if offered £40M then we should take it, that is a lot of money and could buy three players that we really need, two centre halfs and either a midfielder or a forward
If Adebayor goes too that will be even more cash, selling Cesc could be what we need, although he is clearly class i dont think he is a player who is irreplaceable
we could buy another stong defensive midfielder to go alongside Song or Denilson as I dont think Cesc's creativity will be missed too much as we have player like Arshavin, Nasri and Rosicky to provide that
