Liverpool in the shite

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

That said we've never done well off the back off a world cup or Euro Champs.
We've been unlucky with injures this year and with an inexperienced squad I think we've been very, VERY poor.

Hopefully AW can address these issues and where we lost out last summer and hopefully everyone can have a good and full Pre-season.

We were nowhere near challenging for the league, we challenged for a top 3 or 4 spot. We were never in the race for the league itself.

You're right when you say none of us know how conservative they have been because we don't actually know the whole finances of the club. This current board do absolutely nothing to help themselves on that front when they constantly send out mixed messages. The fact that we're going this way on this thread shows how intertwined all the different concerns are.

Anyway, I have to be a bit careful for now with posting anymore this morning. My boss is nearby!!!!
Last season, not this. We were top of the league for over half the season, so we challenged for it last season. We were only 4 points off the top at the end despite a horrible run of draws and despite an unlucky defeat at OT and a defeat thanks to an offside goal against Chelsea.

This season we weren't anywhere near challenging though, unfortunately.
SORRY, MIS-UNDERSTOOD YOU

Alot of really good points made by people in this thread. I would stress that I'm not too hot on the finance side of things but I understand the basics. I think what we all agree on is that the way we go about things by and large is in the 'right' way. I know that in the very recent past Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool have been more successful than us but can their unsustainable business models go on forever? I would think its unlikely and would not be too surprised if a very big club (please let it be Man United) came crashing down not too far into the future.

I agree with you, AT.

But it's been pointed out by others that big clubs like ManU and Liverpool would probably attract new super-rich owners when the shit hits the fan.

Not many people would consider buying a loss-making business which has massive debts. But I guess if you are a disgustingly rich oil sheik, then you might do it just for fun.

Ibramovich might get fed up with his Chelsea toy and decide to walk away. But he could write off the £750million they owe him as a tax loss. And leave them debt free.

Football has gone money-mad.

Gone are the days which saw small clubs like Forest and Derby winning major competitions.

Which is a terrible shame. And not good for football.

I think Liverpool could be in grave danger, they did well last season but before that they were in our position in 4th well behind the pack.

I doubt they will be able to splash the cash in the Summer to strengthen so for me they are in danger of dropping out of the CL positions if all the trauma starts effecting them on the pitch (like we know it does do there)

All things being equal, I kinda like the balance of ownership tha the club currently has. It is true that neither Usmanov nor Kroenke actually need to borrow to buy the entire club but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t do so.
I don’t know enough about either to have that much faith in them. they both have a history of bringing financial success to the companies and sports franchises that they buy into but I would prefer that the shared ownership model that has served us so well continue on its current course.

Kroenke has stated that he is in favour of shared ownership but if track record is anything to go by, Usmanov doesn’t like to share.
Either way, I’m sure that we haven’t heard the last of that particular tale.

We are currently the single-most profitable club in the premier league and despite the moans from certain sections of the support, given our cup runs and number of TV appearances, it may shock people to realise that the 08-09 season was probably our most profitable financial season ever.

They'd still be fucked though! They have a small "loyal" fanbase (it's been swollen slightly by success, it will receed pretty quickly without success), a huge salary bill (highest in the league, by about a third). They were on the brink of bankruptcy before the Russian took over, they'll go straight back there when he fucks off, even if he writes his money off :barscarf:

Dunno why some peeps are surprised by all this - H&G (aka: Hick & Prick in the USofA) are from the same country that elected that war mongering halfwit C*NT bush for 8 years running - so it should come as no surprise whatsoever that having entrusted their club to these two banjopl;ucking inbreeds that they've fucked the mousers up BIG time

ps for Rebel Gooner realy liked your verse

Tweedy is a slapper,
She takes it up the hole,
And when she fucks her husband,
She thinks of our Theo.

so I've come up with a 2nd verse

Tweedy is a slapper
She takes it up the ring
And every time she fucks her husband
She can hear a mobile ring!

All I know is that if Liverpool do go to the wall there will be 42,000 people blaming it on the Yorkshire police.

If the victims become the first top flight victims of the credit crunch, I will personally drive to Liverpool, shake the liquidator by the hand and run naked round Anfield, whilst telling anyone who will listen that the demise of my most loathed club is just desserts for inflicting years of misery on English football following our post Heysel ban (oh sorry I forgot, they weren't "proper Liverpool fans")

No doubt the scabby bastards will get rescued by a fat Arab though.....

That's off my chest...now time for my 4th pint !

If we got taken private by foreign speculators who were obviously not Gooners ie how manure & the scousers were, & in a way that was detrimental to the club ( as above too) rather than to bail us out or help us ie chelski, villa, then that would end my 30 yr relationship with the club, & I applaud the utd fans who had the integrity & bollocks 2 do the same, who actually formed a new team. I personally would not use my cash 2 fund such a scandalous & debt ridden entity, deprecating the great name of our club, & using it just as a franchise. Heard some plans of some scouse fans 2 boycott the games @ half time etc next season. I cant see many having the temerity to carry this out & as at manure some other mugs would soon take their places if they eventually left. Mind you, half of ours seem 2 leave just after half time now anyway- another innovation by AFC
PS - And I am fully aware that my place would be taken up by some gooner mug too. Many may slate me on this but once you get to a certain age & have lived a bit then it would not seem so outrageous to you- unless you had absolutely no other interests & the club were your whole life- in which case I realise that it would be nigh on impossible to turn your back on the new franchise, even though you were getting the piss taken by some speculator! If you all did though, they would soon have to let us have our club back again!
