Bye Bye Ronaldo

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

No way they're gonne be given all that 80 million to re-invest. Those Glazier's are up to their fat American balls in debt.

yes digger, he is that good. He can score goals with either foot and come in off the wing like Pires. Wouldv'e been ideal for us but I have to keep reminding myself that we are looking at the long term (mediocrity) and the fact that buying the likes of robery probably would stifle diaby, denilson and song

What I really meant by my post was to look at the incredible contrast between the two deals. I know we're not talking about Manure spending £80m but think what they will buy to replace him. Having said that, you have to accept that they have a massive debt to finance. It is far from certain that rednose will get this money for new players.

Buying 16 year olds is about the future of the club. I totally accept that this is a good platform from which to run a club. After all, what is there to say we won't sell him in 10 years time for £80m? We might!
My concern is that we currently have a very real need to bring some quality into our first eleven. Can we afford to be spending what little money we have on kids?

100% agree, its the first team that is Priority at the moment.

Im not sure is we are actually paying £4m for a 16 year old, we already have good young strikers coming through (Watt, Sunu ect). If we are actually buying him, i would imagine the fee would be based on appearances etc, stuff like that, over a number of years. If not, its a very un-Wenger like transfer deal - £4m is usually the budget for a first team defender!!

I'm thinking that in spite of their spending, Real Madrid will win nothing next season. :barscarf:

Real sign the two best players in the world with no fuss in a matter of 3 or so days.....

we spend a week and a half faffing about hagging over a Belgian Centre Back, why the fuck can't we do business smoothly.

And Real's problems still persist i.e. no decent manager or defence (no not like us before any of you say it) Perez wants to go down to Galactico route again, andf look what happened there. They'll make a killing on shirt sales though

I made that very point only yesterday rigsby - kaka was a football based decision while ladyboy is a commercial decision in much the same way beckham was. Madrid had recouped the transfer fee for goldenballs through merchandise in a matter of months and while it will take a bit longer here you will still see the same situation.

Jaymitch, I cannot believe that you didnt get the lambasting that you yourself predicted  Ronaldo isnt in the same league as messi who, in my opinion at least, isnt as good as kaka. In my opinion you are falling into that same old stats based arguement where by his goals tally means he is this world class player but that totally ignores the fact that goals in england are a lot easier got than in european leagues  Anyway if goals alone made you world class then maybe that lazy greedy mercenary *word censored* we have is world class
