If they've set it at £80m then you're probably looking at a final deal somewhere between £70m and £75m. Still a very big price for any player but you can't blame the Mancs for taking it. They could buy 3 or 4 world class players for that.
Bye Bye Ronaldo

I would have Messi slightly ahead of Kaka, but both are better players than Ronaldo in my opinion.augie wrote:I made that very point only yesterday rigsby - kaka was a football based decision while ladyboy is a commercial decision in much the same way beckham was. Madrid had recouped the transfer fee for goldenballs through merchandise in a matter of months and while it will take a bit longer here you will still see the same situation.
Jaymitch, I cannot believe that you didnt get the lambasting that you yourself predictedRonaldo isnt in the same league as messi who, in my opinion at least, isnt as good as kaka. In my opinion you are falling into that same old stats based arguement where by his goals tally means he is this world class player but that totally ignores the fact that goals in england are a lot easier got than in european leagues
Anyway if goals alone made you world class then maybe that lazy greedy mercenary c**t we have is world class

Im so pleased from an arsenal perspective but from the view of the premier league its a massive blow. I think la liga will now be considered to a better league than the premier league. I would expect a bidding war between the mancs and the chavs for the likes of ribery, aguerro or benzema whereas we will be fighting to sign eboue's brother

The way I see it is we got arshavin for around 12 mill when zenit wanted 20 mill at first.rigsby wrote:You miss my point Red107, I wasnt saying I agreed with what they're paying etc, i was simply saying that other clubs seem to be able to complete deals in a matter of days, while we constantly seem to hit problems etc with them. Look at Arshavin, fussing over nothing. Just grates on me.
I also find madrids plans funny at times. You have one of the worst left back (who isnt even a left back tbf) playing there, your leaking goals left right and centre so what do you do?
You buy christiano ronaldo and kaka

They quite clearly need a centre back and a left back. I know Pellagrini wont be complaining about kaka and ronaldo but you do wonder if its another case of the chairman/president making decisions that the manager should really be making.

Tbh Olgit i can't see any way that Fergie won't be spending big this summer, they need a quality wide man to replace Ronaldo and i think they could do with some more creative quality in the middle of the park, Fergie's not the type of manager that would allow his best player to be sold and not use the money to strengthen the team, i think we'll probably see the likes of Ribery and at least one other heading for Utd this summer, imo he will spend all the supposed 80m but if he spends less than 50m i would be shocked.olgitgooner wrote:Selling Ronaldo for £80million will reduce Man Utd's debt.
By roughly 10%.
I can't imagine that the Glazers will give Ferguson permission to go on a huge spending spree.
Maybe ol' rednose will throw a hissy. And resign.

DB10Gooner, Michel Platini has responded to your questioning of him on page 1 of this thread
The head of European football has criticised Real Madrid's £80m world-record offer for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, calling it "excessive".
Ronaldo has been angling for a move to his boyhood club since last summer
The Premier League champions accepted the bid after Ronaldo - the reigning world footballer of the year - requested the move, United's website said.
Real Madrid have now been granted permission to discuss terms with the 24-year-old, which United believe will be concluded by June 30.
The remarkable bid comes just days after the Spanish giants signed Brazilian Kaka from AC Milan for a then-world record sum, marginally short of £57.5m.
Uefa president Michel Platini said the £80m fee was too much when the world was in the middle of a financial crisis.
Platini: £80m fee 'excessive'
He said: "It is very puzzling at a time when football faces some of its worst ever financial challenges. These excessive transfers are happening almost every day.
"These transfers are a serious challenge to the idea of fair play and the concept of financial balance in our competitions."
Former United manager Tommy Doherty told Sky News the deal was good news for United, but a further indication "the game's gone mad".
"If I was Alex Ferguson I would cut their hands off and run," he said.
Former United player Clayton Blackmore agreed it was best for his former club to let their star winger leave.
"If Cristiano Ronaldo wants to go, he will not be in a good state of mind and it isn't good for the team," he told Sky News.
But he said the Portuguese international should take heed if he thinks he can turn around the fortunes of Real Madrid, who ended last season trophyless.
