PATHETIC

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

PATHETIC

Post by flash gunner »

Havent people got anything better to do than complain about Duffy not wearing reflective clothing in an advert!!!!!! :banghead:
A TV advert which showed singer Duffy cycling through a supermarket provoked a flurry of complaints.

The commercial for Diet Coke showed Duffy coming off stage before sipping from a can of the cola and cycling through dark streets and into the store, before returning to her concert in time to perform an encore.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said 18 viewers questioned whether the ad condoned behaviour "prejudicial to health and safety", because Duffy was not wearing reflective clothing and her bicycle had no lights.

There were also four complaints about whether the ad was irresponsible because children might copy her behaviour.

Coca-Cola argued that the ad was not meant to reflect reality, but rather "Duffy's fantasy, a scenario that depicted her escape from the pressures of stardom and far removed from the real world".

Nonetheless, the company said they had gone through a "vigorous" production process to ensure they met the Highway Code criteria for riding a bicycle on public roads.

With the regulations recommending cyclists wear reflective clothing in the dark, Coca-Cola pointed out Duffy wore a black and white sparkly top that stood out, while her bicycle had lights on the front and rear in each shot.

After investigating, the ASA did not uphold the complaints, noting the "fantasy context" and deciding that older children would understand cycling round a supermarket was not a realistic situation.

It beggars belief doesn't it. How people have time in their life to scrutinise adverts that closely, and then complain, is beyond me.

I honestly do harbour a great deal of contempt for those members of society who affect everyone else with their own narrow-minded stubborness. Should be culled. :barscarf:

There's almost always something like that going on in the news, and current affairs shows love it.

Actually...just watch this, and see what you all think:

Its was all over the media for a week or so here, really annoyed the hell out of me. Personally I think it was a good sketch. I'm a big fan of the show though, and the majority of those complaining about it haven't seen the program once in their pathetic lives.

Anyway, here's some of the media circus that followed:

And this program is actually fairly objective! You should have seen the current affairs shows. :banghead:

Well, the Duffy thing was truly ridiculous.

BUT. Some adverts I've seen DO need to be sorted.

There was one a few years ago. It showed Mermaids, under the sea, using brand new hair dryers.

We all know that kids copy stuff that they see on the telly.

Cue little girl. Plug in hairdryer. Jump in the bath. Be a Mermaid.

At the time, I got a lot of stick for pointing out the danger. I was ridiculed for it.

A few weeks later, the advert was pulled off air.

I'm hoping that it was just a precaution. And not because of an incident.
