It isnt so much that I would want to get rid of gallas but I had hoped in the back of my mind that he would go to lyon as part of a deal that see's us buy benzema

Arsène Wenger faces difficult choice over Arsenal future of William Gallas

Arsène Wenger faces a dilemma over the future of his former captain at Arsenal, William Gallas, after the France international indicated that he is willing to see out the final year of his contract at the Emirates and leave for no fee under the Bosman ruling next summer.
Gallas said that he is "relaxed" in anticipation of the season ahead with Arsenal, but he has yet to be offered new terms at the club and it is understood he is minded not to prolong his stay in north London beyond the end of the forthcoming campaign. The 31-year-old lost the captaincy to Cesc Fábregas at the Emirates last November after publicly criticising his team-mates, and that demotion is still a cause for frustration with the centre-half.
The former Chelsea defender's current deal runs until June 2010 and while he has retained the support of Wenger, the manager may decide to seek a fee for the player now rather than risk losing him for nothing in a year. Gallas had provoked interest from Paris St-Germain, Marseille and Lyon during the midwinter window and while French clubs would still be keen to get him home, he intends to spend at least one more season at a club he believes are capable of challenging for European honours, whether that be Arsenal or not.
Internazionale, whose attempt to sign Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea is stalling with the clubs still a distance apart in their valuation of the Portuguese, might offer him a route to Serie A, though Gallas suggested yesterday that he would not agitate for a move at present. "I am at Arsenal and my contract is valid for another year, so I remain an Arsenal player," he said. "We have not talked about renewing the contract, but I am relaxed and looking forward to next season with Arsenal."
The Frenchman, who missed the last two months of the season with medial ligament damage, could potentially partner the club's new £10m signing Thomas Vermaelen at the heart of Arsenal's defence next season should he remain at the club. Arsenal continue to pursue additions to their squad, with Werder Bremen's Brazilian centre-half Naldo the latest to be linked to the club, though Mikaël Silvestre and Emmanuel Adebayor could yet leave for Bordeaux and Milan respectively.
Wenger has continued planning for the club's long-term future by securing the Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey to a new long-term contract. The 18-year-old, who made 22 first-team appearances following his £5m move from Cardiff last summer, is still finding his feet but impressed in flashes last term. "Aaron made a very good contribution in his first season and he showed that he is a very intelligent player with great quality," said Wenger. "He is still only 18 and we are really looking forward to seeing him develop with us in the forthcoming years."
That's interesting, Gallas would probably wanna go back to France at some point, could be good in a swap for Cana assuming Wenger wanted him and was prepared to let Gallas go as Marseille is a big club there.
If Gallas is not going to re sign then he should be sold to get a fee, I like him but players walking away for nothing is not good.
I'd even consider bringing Sol Campbell back for a couple of years, he's still looks fit and he's as experienced as they come and is out of contract so wouldn't cost anything.
