Arsenal boardroom battles over £150 million rights issue

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

This rights issue is a load of bollox.

It's designed so the Fat One can gain more power by hovering up all the share issues that aren't taken up, which considering the current econmic climate, is highly likely.

Apparently, according to arseblog, Ivan has brought Rothschild on board to look at the feasibility of it.

In fact, I think arseblog has got it spot on, why do we want to become a sugar-daddy-loving-rich-man's-play-thing?

There is no guarantee that more money means more success and if it doesn't then are you prepared to be a rich-man's-play-thing?

Anyway, why would you ever want to be like the Utd scum? To aspire to that sack of shit is a bit rubbish.

As much as I would like to agree with you, I too would one day like to see Arsenal go past 18league title and win the CL.
It is proven that Arsene's style of footie can work with the right players(unbeaten team) and to think we almost won the league the year before with players of a lower standard can only prove that point.
Self-sufficiency is still possible but no business can succeed without the risk of cash injection from its owners.
The last I checked the chavs won trophies by buying, Barcelona bought, yaya, alves, henry, keita, e.t.c for millions and are reaping the benefits with the best footie in europe and increased ticket prices, merchandising e.t.c due to that fact.
In the end, I believe we can do it better but as it stands we are still behind our opponents and hoping for their squads to age or lose quality players like Lady boy.

Robsy that is a very simplistic viewpoint - if this plan was accepted and the current shareholders all took up their options on the extra shares then the status quo in the % each shareholder owns would remain the same but the club would get a cash windfall which we would hope would be released for team investment. The problem of course is that most of the board would not want to buy extra shares given that they have been selling them in recent years so yes that would then open the door for usmanov. Let me say again that I dont want usmanov as our owner either but selling shares and refusing to buy new shares in the club is hardly a sign of commitment in the club is it ? Only a fool would say that right now we do not need a serious cash injection to bring in some top quality players so that we might challenge for titles again and I doubt that you are a fool robsy but you are allowing your opposition to usmanov cloud your judgement re what the club needs right now. You are right when you say that money doesnt necessarily = success and there is no guarantee when you buy a player that he will be an henry as opposed to a stepanovs but you still buy players in the hope that they will improve the team and help bring trophies back again and sadly right now we are light in the cash dept
