Arsenal are close to wrapping up the signature of Blaise Matuidi.

The 22-year-old French midfielder is ready to leave St. Etienne, and recently expressed his admiration for Arsenal's style of play.

Now, according to The Mirror, The Gunners are closing in on a deal, with Arsene Wenger having held talks with Matuidi yesterday. It is believed that he will cost in the region of £2.5million.

Matuidi has also attracted the interest of Tottenham and Everton, but he has made it clear that Arsenal is his first choice.

That will not be the end of Wenger's midfield signings, however, as he weighs up a move for Udinese's Gokhan Inler.
http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2 ... es-matuidi

only 2.5m, lets hope he turns out to be a bargain

He's a very good DM, but he's not the big, experienced, top class DM we expected.
Matuidi is like a L.Diarra but with a great mentality, he runs a lot, he defends very well, good passing, very good strike. He was also captain of Saint Etienne, even if he's only 22. So he's got a lot of qualities .. but I dont know if he's ready to be a 1st choice at Arsenal for the next season.
I remember Sagna didn't have experience before to sign at Arsenal, and he did a great first season ... so it could be a good choice.
But I'm fed up with the french players .. :banghead:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... ffers.html

Projoe it is an Arsenal type of offer - as I said on a different thread wenger and the board operate in some sort of parallell universe where the players we want you can buy for a thrupenny bit and the players we are selling are worth at least as much as the ladyboy that went to madrid

Without wishing to come across as racist here but I do agree with vince that I would prefer that we looked at players outside france - it isnt that I dont want french players cos they have provided some quality players to us in the past but it seems to me that it is nearly always wenger's first port of call when it comes to player recruitment

I agree that we shoould look at players from other places whilst we have 1-2 players from other countries such as brazil and mexico we have loads from france. This can be good but it means we are going to miss out on good players from places such as Italy and Germany.

I'm not racist neither coz I'm french
It's just I'm a fan of brittish football .. and too much french or african players could be dangerous for the atmosphere in the dress.

Quite a good point made by some of you on here. While I would never say Wenger is prejudice in any way, I do feel he is perhaps slightly biased towards french/african players. He also seems to stick with them a lot more than with say young english guys who he gets rid of pretty easily.

I'ld say what we need to sign is some characters in the team. Guys like Ray Parlour were liked by everyone of all ntionalities because he was a laugh (as well as being a good player of course).Of course I'm not saying buy a player because he makes people laugh, but I think we lack a real sort of presence within that changing room who can Galvanise. Wenger often talks about the spirit of the team, yet I don't really see them being really 'together', I could be wrong of course, but I'm not so sure.

The fact is, Wenger is french, Grimandi is one of his best scouts and he's french aswell. And they know france very well, they know that they can get very good players, very cheap from L1 Clubs. And Arsenal is a Club where a lot of french players dream to play, so it's easy to attract them. It's always the easy choice for Wenger when he needs a player, to look in France ...

And there's another thing, I think there's more young talent in France than in UK, and they are much more expensive. If Wenger wants to get English players he has to produce them with the Academy.

But that's what he's doing, and I think the Wilshere, Lansbury, Thomas, etc .... will soon make it in first team like Theo and Gibbs did. And the team will be more balanced.

Juventus-Felipe Melo Negotiations Completed, Official Confirmation Tonight
Juventus have completed the signing of Felipe Melo from Fiorentina, according to Sky Sport Italia.

A deal was reported on Tuesday and it now seems that the Brazilian will be plying his trade in Turin next season, after signing a five-year deal worth €2.6 million per season.

Official confirmation is expected to arrive from both clubs this evening, possibly during the presentation of another Brazilian at Juventus, Diego.

Juventus have paid €21 million plus the full ownership of winger Marco Marchionni, a deal worth €25m in total, the amount set as the player's release clause in a contract he just signed on June 30 with the Viola.

The transfer was originally expected to be completed yesterday, but there was a late hitch over the salary that Marco Marchionni would be earning in Florence. These problems were solved, as has been confirmed by Marchionni's agent Bruno Carpeggiani.

"If I was pessimistic yesterday, today I am very optimistic," Carpeggiani told Fiorentina.it.

"The situation has been unlocked, the player has accepted the offer from Fiorentina and is married to the Viola project.

"Official confirmation? We can say that it will arrive in a matter of hours."

Felipe Melo had an impressive debut season for Fiorentina and was a pivotal figure in Brazil's triumph at the Confederations Cup this June. He was also linked with Arsenal, but the Serie A giants have beaten the Gunners to his signature.

The player has also featured for Almeria, Racing Santander, Mallorca, Gremio, Cruzeiro, and Flamengo during his career, and will join fellow Brazilians Diego and Amauri in Turin.

What a shame, i thought there was a chance we would get him and he would improve us, where we needed it. We now go from being linked to mello at £15mil to basil brush matuidi at £2.5m. I hope the £5mil we were trying to use for melo is not all we have in the kitty :banghead: :banghead:

As soon as another club are involved in ANY Player we're interested in - You can bet your last penny - We'll lose out! fuck...Fuck.... FUCK....FUCK!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

And then there's this fucking scouse idiot twat...saying that the spending on players has got out of hand.....Oh! really raffa yer fuckin' Jaffa TWAT!...Like he hasn't spent more than his fair share since he arrived in england the train spotter TWAT!

from the BBC website"

"Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed his club are struggling to compete in an over-heated summer transfer market.
The Reds paid £17m for Portsmouth right-back Glen Johnson, but saw long-term target Gareth Barry opt for Manchester City rather than Anfield.
The Spaniard is also preparing to fend off enquiries for midfield pair Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.
"The market is now crazy. It is all money, money, money now," he said.
"We had to pay big money. But we were signing a good player, an England player (Johnson), and that is very positive."
Johnson was reportedly tracked by Chelsea and Manchester City, two clubs whose owners have contributed to spiralling transfer fees for top players.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol have been recruited at a combined cost of about £183m, but the Reds boss warned that building a team through the chequebook is no guarantee of success.
"Things have changed. You have to adapt to a situation. Manchester City and big clubs in Europe are spending big money, so the market has changed and we have to work harder," he added.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... -21513085/

I'm glad to say he didn't do the dirty on us (and has my respect for that)
unlike hlebtwatsphincterturdc*nt

maybe RVP should now explain to adebarndoor what the word 'Loyalty' actually means

I just hope he avoids any injuries now!
