Mark Hughes has conceded Manchester City are negotiating a deal to sign Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, but insists the transfer is not yet concluded.
Speaking at the unveiling of the club's latest signing Carlos Tevez, Hughes had to field questions about purported targets Adebayor and Chelsea captain John Terry.
While he was reticent to become embroiled in a discussion over the latter, he did reveal that widespread talk of a swoop for Adebayor was not wide of the mark.
Despite huge transfer fees being paid for Tevez and fellow summer signing Roque Santa Cruz, Hughes is refusing to rule out further additions before the start of the new campaign.
"I think there have been discussions between ourselves and Arsenal but as is my usual response to questions about players we haven't yet signed, it's not really the right time or place to discuss it," said Hughes.
"Yes, there has been contact. There is a deal to be done, possibly. But it's not been concluded as we speak here. Until that actually happens it's not really the time or the place.
"There may well be opportunities that present themselves. Obviously there are areas of the team we'd still like to strengthen.
"We would like to be in a position at the beginning of the season to have a team in place that we think can challenge. If the opportunity presents itself, yes, we could buy new players."
When asked whether he thought Tevez, believed to have cost the club in the region of £25million, was value for money he answered emphatically.

knowing our luck the *word censored* will demand 200k and the deal will break down.
Maybe a cheeky bid for luis fabiano from seville? he was supposed to be signing for AC Milan but things seem to have gone quiet on that! I belive he would score more goals then Barndoor, and contribute alot more to the team.
One can dream.....

Its Up 4 Grabs Now wrote:Im in two minds...
On the one hand if Santa Cruz cost £18m then given C*ntbayor’s greater standing in the game(deserved or otherwise) & considering Blackburn aren’t fit to breathe the air Arsenal fart in then I’d be a touch disappointed if we only got a million or two more off Citeh for A******r than Fat Sam got for a Paraguayan Steve Archibald.
Especially as in Wanky Hughes’ mind they’d be weakening us at the same time as strengthening themselves in the push for a CL place.
But on the other hand I’d honestly take a sausage & egg McMuffin in exchange for that lanky squirrel-raping twat right now & call it a good deal.
Who am I kidding, the first hand's weaker than Jeremy Beadle's... sell the c*nt & DO IT NOW!!!
Could be a few extra people on the For Sale & Wanted forum looking for tickets to the Eastlands on September 12.![]()

But that wouldn't work in Ade's case as Citeh could afford to call his bluff...either that or risk going (staying) back with the Arsenal on his megre 80k a week!Mikegooner87i wrote:knowing our luck the c**t will demand 200k and the deal will break down.

True, but I don't ever remember having such a journeyman who admits he's only here for the money.Boomer wrote:Funny my mate (non-Arsenal) has just pointed out my (our) mood on this....
It's like we're celebrating a new signing!
Take yourself out for a sec and we're all joyus simply over a player leaving the club.![]()

Then slags off the fans in an interview after questioning his commitment.
*word censored*. Of the very very highest order. Losing him will help the team gel.
