Bye-bye Adebayor? It's more like good riddance from his Arsenal team-mates and supporters alike

Another summer transfer window and another major departure from Arsenal is in the pipeline.
The close-season exodus of talent from north London has become the norm in recent times and shows no sign of abating with Emmanuel Adebayor edging closer to a lucrative move to Manchester City, although last night the deal was held up over the Togolese player's personal terms.
From Patrick Vieira, through Ashley Cole and Thierry Henry to Alexander Hleb and Mathieu Flamini, Arsene Wenger has been unable to hang on to key members of his squad, whether due to players' ambitions or their financial demands.
The case of Adebayor has some notable differences, however. Robin van Persie, for example, is unlikely to be regretting signing a new four-year deal at The Emirates now Adebayor is set to depart. Neither is the pull of a return to Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas likely to have been strengthened by the news that the striker could be joining Carlos Tevez at Eastlands.
As for the fans, don't expect to see too many crying into their beer at the prospect of his defection. Adebayor's flirtation with AC Milan and Barcelona last summer is still fresh in the memory of supporters. And while his previous campaign may have been punctuated by injury, his perceived lack of dedication to the cause, especially in the Champions League semifinal games against Manchester United, left a bitter taste in the mouths of many a Gooner.
The 25-year-old's comments, at the back end of last season, that Arsenal had 'gone backwards' no doubt only served to strengthen the belief that Wenger should not have tried so hard to convince his striker to stay by handing him a new £80,000-a-week deal a year ago.
It is understood Wenger remains ready to do business with City for around £25m. That still represents a very healthy return on the £3m Wenger is adamant he paid Monaco for Adebayor threeand- a-half years ago.
It leaves plenty for the Arsenal manager to sign what he considers to be a ready-made replacement in Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh and a much-needed central midfielder, with Udinese's Gokhan Inler back on his radar.
A fee of £6m for Chamakh might sound like another Wenger punt, but the 25-year-old Morocco striker has only one year left on his contract. Now that Eduardo has recovered from the horrifically shattered ankle that threatened his career, Arsenal's strikeforce is shaping up to be more potent than it has been in recent seasons.
City will, of course, point to Adebayor's tally of 30 goals in all competitions two seasons ago as a true barometer of his ability, even though few would claim those figures put him in the same class as Mark Hughes's original target, Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o.
But keeping a strikeforce consisting of the differing personalities of Adebayor, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz, Robinho and Craig Bellamy happy will be no mean feat for Hughes.
Rumours abound that Adebayor has become a disruptive influence in the Arsenal dressing room. His only real allies are believed to be Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue, both of whom face uncertain Arsenal futures.
And any discussion of Adebayor's Arsenal career would not be complete without making reference to his outrageous butt on team-mate Nicklas Bendtner. The Dane might be every bit as cocksure as his occasional strike partner but Adebayor's behaviour in the 5-1 Carling Cup defeat by Spurs was inexcusable.
Hughes obviously feels Adebayor's pros very much outweigh his cons as he looks to build a team capable of gatecrashing the Champions League places.
Wenger, by contrast, looks increasingly like a manager who believes his team's chances of another top-four finish will not be damaged, and could even be enhanced, by the sale of Adebayor.
Whatever the effect the striker's likely arrival in Manchester has on City's fortunes, it is unlikely to have Arsenal fans jamming the phone-in lines complaining about seeing him in a sky-blue shirt.
Patrick Vieira in the lilywhite of Spurs? Now that's a different story.

BBC reporting he's passed the medical. Assuming he doesn't keep referring to himself in the 3rd person too much this looks like it should go through

Its time for Ade to go and the tall Dane to rise.
I’m fast becoming a big fan of Nicklas. I even saw him in Sainsbury’s a few months ago and he was very polite with people and seemed a bit shy, contrary to the image projected in the media. But he has the self-belief on the pitch big time and I’d be happy to see him as our ‘big man option’ up front next season. With Ade leaving I suspect we will play a 4-2-3-1 or move Arshavin up front - this makes sense as we can accommodate Nasri, Arshavin and Walcott in the same side regularly and I think this is Arsene’s idea.
People are surely right to be worried about the prospect of Chamakh; the guy is 25 and did nothing of note up till last season and even that only yielded a 13 goal return. But then again, Arsene always seems to pull the rabbit out of the hat so he could end up being an absolute star. My feeling is that if we aren’t going to bring in a 1st team striker, lets not bring one in at all. We have enough combinations and strikers as it is - Eduardo, RVP, Vela, Bendtner, Walcott, Arshavin…

I for one
Am amased you lot are so happy he is going...if Wenger doesnt spend proper money (and we know he wont) on a replacement we only going to get the same problems over and over again. Eboue,Bendtner and Diaby should have left first in my humble opinion.
The guy we are supposed to be replacing Ade with interested the likes of Fulham,Sunderland and Blackburn. Nuff said.
