Dont know much about this guy but i would have thought if he was any good we would have heard about him before this.I do think if greedy is to be replaced we probably need a tall centre forward.Even though i wasnt a great fan of bendtner i think this season is going to be a big big season for him.But in saying all that i agree with most that a tall cb and dm should be the priority but then again who would these players be everybody here cant seem to agree on this and im not up to date on players that people are suggesting only going by newspaper reports .
rtpgooner wrote:i would be for it, if it ment getting gokhan inler or a cdm aswell, with the £25mil money. If all we are buying is a striker i would prefer huntellar. Chamakhs goalscoring record, is awful and i cannot see him starting above eduardo, rvp or bendnter
I agree 100% with your comments about chamakhs scoring record being woeful but then you dilute it by saying that you would buy him to save money for other positions. If a player is not going to bring anything to the table then what is the point in buying him ?

It’s not so much what he’s done (or not) up to now that bothers me, cos Drogba is proof that some players just develop much later than others. Up until 23 Ian Wright was playing non-league.
What’s more concerning for me is that here you’ve got a key player from the title winning team in the French league (essentially the most expensive breeding ground for the big 3 leagues) who’s going amazingly cheap (by any standards, never mind this summer’s) & yet the only clubs that are seemingly interested are us & Sunderland!
I’m not gonna write him off without seeing him but something doesn’t add up.

That's what worries me too IU4GN. He was clearly overshadowed by Youri Gourcuff (linked to us in summer 2008 in relation to the Adebayor deal. Thing with Huntelaar is, if what he’s predominantly gonna bring to the table is clinical finishing then I’d argue we’ve got Eduardo already who brings precisely that! Fair enough it cant hurt to have more quality but I’d rather a striker who also has the sort of attributes we don’t have in the team/squad already… namely, pace & physical presence. I’m not sure if Huntelaar really brings either of those.augie wrote:...in huntelaar we would get a player who will indeed cost more but he will also bring more to the team. Having an extra body is no good unless they are useful to the team
And at £17m plus big wages we’d no doubt end up skimping elsewhere (ie DM) so for that price I’d want more for my money that just what we’ve already got.
I have heard a lot of Gooners say we have Eduardo but can we put our faith in a player who hasnt played a competetive 90 mins in 18 months. And after every comeback game last season he picked up an injury. Also RVP"s injury record does not inspire confidence.I think we need another striker just in case.My choice would be Huntelaar but if it isnt we need to sign someoneIts Up 4 Grabs Now wrote:Thing with Huntelaar is, if what he’s predominantly gonna bring to the table is clinical finishing then I’d argue we’ve got Eduardo already who brings precisely that! Iu4gn, I agree 100% that preferably we would buy a striker with real pace (a younger anelka if you like
) but at the same time I do not see the point in buying a chamakh or martins who bring real pace but seemingly fcuk all else
With huntelaar I believe we would get a striker that has physical presence, can win headers and of course will score goals. If we have a fit eduardo is there any point in signing him ? That point is debateable but it sure as hell makes more sense to sign him then either of the other two strikers. After all if we just want someone fast to play upfront that wastes too many chances then why dont we just put theo up there ?

I’m not against bringing in another striker as long as it doesn’t prevent us spending whatever we need to on other higher priority areas of the team - mainly on our new CM to play alongside Cesc… Francois Ardbasteurd! And knowing us, the reality is bringing in a top striker probably would do just that.
There may be an element of risk re: Eduardo but the niggly injuries he had after his comeback were surely to be expected after so long out. With a full pre-season behind him I’m confident the risk is not that great. Players like Henrik Larsson have proven it’s more than possible to return as the same player even after such a horrific injury.
So with that in mind I’d just rather we went for a striker who also had the sort of qualities we’re already 100% lacking (injuries or no injuries), and pace is one of them. Defences are comfortable playing a high line against us these days cos we pose no real threat of getting in behind them. Which obviously means they can play more of a pressing game which really doesn’t suit us. I’m not sure who’s really out there to buy if I’m honest but that’s a key thing I’d be looking for & Huntelaar by all accounts doesn’t have it.
I do actually rate Huntelaar highly, I’m just not convinced he’s what we need most.

Wont get any argument from me there augie. Just to be clear I'm not saying we should buy either of those 2 (although for all I know Chamakh might be the bog's dollocks), I'm just saying Huntelaar might not be the answer either. And certainly not at the price he'd no doubt cost IF that cose prevented us buying a quality CM etc.augie wrote:Iu4gn, I agree 100% that preferably we would buy a striker with real pace (a younger anelka if you like) but at the same time I do not see the point in buying a chamakh or martins who bring real pace but seemingly fcuk all else

I have never seen the guy play, but what i am saying is by the sounds of it wenger has chamakh in mind, so if he was going to by him i would want the remaining money to be spent on a cdm. I feel a cdm is a prioirty over a strikeraugie wrote:rtpgooner wrote:i would be for it, if it ment getting gokhan inler or a cdm aswell, with the £25mil money. How about we write it on Swale's forehead & fire him out of a giant cannon into Wenger's office with a threat that if it doesn't happen soon Bendtner's Drinking Buddy & Andrey's Tongue will be next!augie wrote:Thats settled then.....we dont bother with chamakh or martins and just buy a quality DM. Now do you want to let wenger know about this or will i ?![]()

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... z0Ljw9inNsArsenal are considering moving for Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac as a replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor.
Gignac, 23, was the French league's top scorer last season and has been the subject of a £13million bid from Lyon - but Toulouse want closer to £18m.
Arsenal, armed with £25m from Adebayor's sale to Manchester City, had scouts watch Gignac on Friday night in a friendly against Bordeaux who had Marouane Chamakh in their line up.
Arsene Wenger is an admirer of Sunderland target Chamakh, Hoffenheim's Demba Ba and Newcastle's Obafemi Martins but Gignac is believed to be his preference.
