Sepp Blatter talking Boll...quotas again!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Sepp Blatter talking Boll...quotas again!

Post by Galasso »

So, quotas on foreign players?

I swear the guy just comes out with something he knows can't happen, so when it doesn't he can look as though he's done something - knowing full well it would never have happened in the first place.

And if this is to help our (English) national team, may I suggest a better idea would be to train kids in the early years in a different way. See how they do it in Holland, Italy, Spain, Africa and mix this in with our own ideas. Why not, Fabregas is an example not only of a technically gifted footballer but a well-rounded individual.

Of course it would be below the FA to have to go to some of these "smaller" countries to get advice on how to play "our game".

Still, if Sepp can prevent a recurrence of Stepanovs then I would be most grateful

Yes, yes, yes! I am sick and fucking tired of hearing whinges by or for English players not getting a look in when virtually none of them have the guts to go abroad and get first team experience, perhaps in smaller leagues.

If it's good enough for god knows how many French and Dutch players, loads of Africans, Spaniards, Portuguese and even Americans and Australians, why don't English players do the same thing?

The answer is because they'd rather talk high Premier League salaries for sitting in the reserves and because they just don't have the character. Say what you like about Reyes but at least he tried moving abroad before he realised he couldn't do it.

Piss off Blatter, with your predictable attention-seeking "initiative".

In countries that produce players then this isn't needed. England's youth system is awful, we have heart and defending but we can't play possession football, our players like the ability to do anything remotely involved flair or produce something magic, we currently lack keepers. A recent interview with Gavin Hoyte, Murphy and Lansbury after their U17 exploits, one of them mentioned that they had to teach the others the Arsenal way. Also look at the attitude of players like Cesc over the likes of DB of Blackburn, Glen of Portsmouth and... well most English player.

The u16 to u21 sides are good at defending, some promising shot stopper (not goalkeepers) and to counterattack but while there are improvements, the U17 are good at keeping play among the back and don't long ball it. There are players like Moses who could be quality but they are rare players, we are going to be a nation of arrogant cloggers who always imagine we are an elite nation so blame managers for our problems till the system is fixed.

Thankfully the EU should stop this idiotic policy that fixes nothing and makes things worse.

Exactly - Everyone seems to be kicking at the locked door while the door they want is wide open.

The arrogance of the FA, shown in their underhand dealing with the WC2006 bid and agreement with Germany, knows no bounds and they would rather knock down Wembley than search out the best practices.

And, as you rightly say, the bahviour and attutude of English players leaves alot to be desired for young professional people - Just look at Pennant, At least now he's found God

It's not AW's job to create young people good and well rounded enough - it's the FA, schools and parents.
