atmosphere improving

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

atmosphere improving

Post by tomkingsbury »

Was it just me or was there a better atmosphere today? i've noticed a gradual improvement this season, people must be used to getting involved. I was sitting in the (ahem) club level section this afternoon, and normally in my block, im one of the few to sing or chant. But today filled me with hope: men were standing up and hurling abuse at the sunderland fans, and a vast majority were repeating songs, inlcuding "we've got cesc fabregas" "ade-bay-or" "robin van persie!" "and its arsenal...." and were really roaring the team on. I may have a slightly biased view on club level not being as bad as its made out, but if we continue to build on this season's improved atmosphere, we can make ashburton grove a fortress!

i agree..i was in the yellow quadrant next to the sunderland fans and i think the atmosphere has improved with each game.....but we did go a bit quite when they equalised though.
also see a lot more scarfes, and seeing them held up for ''wonder of you'' hope santa gets me one!!

All in all a pretty good atmosphere yesterday. Bit of a lull in the 1st half..After the 2 goals went in I think all goons expected the game to be over, and so did their lot, so it was quite weird for a bit..
Overall though its much better than last year and I cant wait for a Spurs/Man U/Chelsea it'll be rocking!!

I agree the atomosphere is better than last season but i though it was the quietest it has been this season yesterday, especially in the first half. The RedAction section tried their best but no one was joining in.Come on Gooners we our top of the league lets get behind the team even if we our two goals up

Def better than last season & as soon as the Sunderland fans sung us lot it them back & it was slience from them
I though never had no energy before the game to sing because i was singing throughout the march from the Gunners & just got there for KO & it must of been the first time i was late for KO
Though half way through the first half it was quiet but as long as when the bigger teams come to the Grove we shut them up & take away the shitty Highbury singing tag

I thought the atmosphere yesterday was awful for the most part.

AGREE WITH RILO II. ALTHOUGH THE ATMOSPHERE HAS BEEN BETTER THIS SEASON, I FELT IT WAS BELOW PAR YESTERDAY - ESPECIALLY IN THE FIRST HALF - AND IT WAS ONLY AFTER SUNDERLAND EQUALISED THAT IT STARTED TO GET NOISEY.

IN MY OPINION IT'S STARTING TO BECOME A TREND THAT WE ARE ONLY AT OUR LOUDEST LATE ON WHEN WE ARE CHASING A GAME. I CERTAINLY THINK THAT IT'S NOT A CO-INCIDENCE THAT WE SCORE SO MANY LATE GOALS, WHEN THE ATMOSPHERE IS BETTER. WE CERTAINLY CAN IMPROVE ON THE FIRST HALF SUPPORT - YOU NEVER KNOW, IT MIGHT HELP THE TEAM SCORE EARLIER MORE OFTEN.

AT THE VERY LEAST, WE SHOULD BE MAKING A HUGE RACKET WHENEVER WE GET A CORNER OR FREE-KICK IN A DANGEROUS AREA. SOMETIMES WE DO SING 'ARSENAL, ARSENAL' OR 'COME ON YOU REDS!', BUT OTHERTIMES WE DON'T, AND WE NEED MORE CONSISTENCY. IT CAN SOUND EMBARRASSING WHEN WE'RE ON THE T.V., THAT THE CROWD AREN'T GETTING REALLY EXCITED WHEN WE ARE IN A DANGEROUS ATTACKING POSITION LIKE THAT.

BY THE WAY, UNLIKE A COUPLE OF THE OTHERS, I THOUGHT THE SUNDERLAND FANS WERE VERY GOOD AND VOCAL FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE GAME.

From watching it in a bar on big screen, the atmosphere seemed pretty poor as IHH and Rilo mentioned.

I would've thought that Rebel and all those drunken Irishmen would've made the difference!

Still, those that were their would know better how it was in their part of the ground.

I think the tottenham thing was from Sunderland directed at us - that's what I thought from watching on a Bar TV - maybe someone can confirm??

These Geordies/Mackems must be born with stronger vocals - surprised they don't produce more opera singers (their women are fat enough  ) 8)

we sang it to them after the 2nd goal and we were giving them the runaround. But then they sang it back to us when they equalised..I mean, we did play like Tottenham in disguise for most of the 2nd half so I'll let that one go..
They were pretty loud and Ironically enough the only set of fans I've heard make a bigger racket this season were Necwastle..

I thought the atmosphere was crap yeaterday ..I say crap in the context from 2-0 up to 2-2. It was a sunday 12.00 o'clock kick off thou that helps noone.

I had a women screaming in my ear at 2-2 everytime Sunderland got within 30 yards of our goal. Other teams are allowed to shoot against us last time i checked the rules.
