Arsenal are considering moving for Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac as a replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor.

Gignac, 23, was the French league's top scorer last season and has been the subject of a £13million bid from Lyon - but Toulouse want closer to £18m.

Arsenal, armed with £25m from Adebayor's sale to Manchester City, had scouts watch Gignac on Friday night in a friendly against Bordeaux who had Marouane Chamakh in their line up.

Arsene Wenger is an admirer of Sunderland target Chamakh, Hoffenheim's Demba Ba and Newcastle's Obafemi Martins but Gignac is believed to be his preference.

I just wish the rumours about Martins would go away.(a) he is not good enough (b) he is injury prone

If you can tell anything about a player from the clubs they are linked with then this fella has apparently agreed terms with sunderland, blackburn, fulham (I think :? ) and now the fcuking scum   If playing for those scumbags is his level then I think wenger had best give this fella a wide berth

Lyon Gunner go for Chamakh
LYON are ready to scupper any Arsenal bid for Marouane Chamakh.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has admitted his interest in the Bordeaux hitman despite not making a firm offer.

Chamakh, who says he wants a switch to England, is also a target for Sunderland and Blackburn.

But French giants Lyon have registered their interest in the striker and could make a move.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said: "When I see that Chamakh wishes to leave for England but perhaps not France, it is regrettable.

"Because we would be ready to welcome him with open arms."

Chamakh in London

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 49,00.html
Skysports.com understands that Arsenal and Sunderland target Marouane Chamakh is in London.

The Moroccan international has been left fuming by Bordeaux's decision to reject bids from the Premier League duo.

Sunderland's offer was understood to have matched or been very close to Bordeaux's valuation of the player, but their coach Laurent Blanc stated he was too good to join the North East club.

Now Arsenal have come in for the 25-year-old - but their bid has been rejected.

Arsenal are understood to have offered just £5million, an offer president Jean-Louis Triaud has branded 'ridiculous' as the club are believed to be looking for at least double that figure.

"What Wenger proposes is not decent," he stated.

But now events have taken a fresh turn as Chamakh missed Bordeaux's clash with Villarreal on Sunday.

Blanc confirmed he was informed by the player he could not play, saying: "I received a phone call on Saturday evening. He told me he was sick and I am forced to believe it."

Despite Chamakh missing the match, it now transpires he is in England as he looks to try and push through a move to the Premier League.
Anger

And Chamakh shows no signs of relenting over his stance as he launched a fresh attack on Bordeaux.

"I am angry, I am disgusted and I do not understand why they have done that," he told L'Equipe when asked about Arsenal's offer being rejected.

"One thing is certain, I will not be signing a new contract - if they will not let me go now, I will leave for free.

"If a solution cannot be found quickly, everyone will lose. Frankly I really do not want to start the season with Bordeaux."

Chamakh is infuriated that neither Sunderland or Arsenal can agree terms with Bordeaux.

"Already I am told that Sunderland is not the club for me," he continued.

"But since when does a club chose the future of a player? Then my bosses tell me they will let me go to one of the 'Big Four' like Arsenal.

"And then when an offer comes in, it is refused because they want a bigger fee as I have one-year left on my contract.

"Everything is being done to prevent my move, I do not understand given how much service I have given to Bordeaux.

"Joining Arsenal is my dream. My agents are in talks with Arsenal and I really hope it will go off smoothly. I don't want to start a trail of strength with my officials."

Chamakh is on French radio now ..

* He said he has never been in London, it was BS. He was just sick and couldn't play with the rest of the team.
* There's 2 Clubs interrested in him, Sunderland et Arsenal, he wants to join one of those Clubs.
* He said to his president that he wanted to leave, it's his wish, but if it's not possible he'll stay at Bordeaux.
* He think he worth not more than £5m. And he understands that Arsenal dont want to offer more.
* Wenger has never called him, it's his agents who are working on the deal.

Can anybody please explain to me how it is that we are sooo interested in signing a guy that has a strike ratio of 1 goal every 4.1 games ? Jesus this guy makes the greedy *word censored* we just got shot of looked positively prolific   How can we seriously expect to challenge for trophies with a forward line consisting of an injury prone eduardo, rvp who last season had his best goals return to date (11 goals  (), bedtner who to this point has not proved that he is ready to be anything other than an impact sub, theo who couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo and now this guy who scores once every 47 games

Huntelaar 179 goals in 265 career games now thats what you call a striker. And he would only cost 17m thats an 8m profit on the Greedybayor deal.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will not be upping his efforts to bring Marouane Chamakh to Arsenal.

The Gunners boss had enquired as to the Bordeaux striker's availability, and has lodged an offer he deems to be acceptable.

However, the French champions are stalling on any possible deal as they hold out for more money.

Wenger is reluctant to improve his bid and has admitted that, in his eyes, the agreement is dead unless Bordeaux change their stance.

"In five months, if he doesn't prolong his contract, Chamakh will be free to talk to any club and Bordeaux won't get anything," the Frenchman told L'Equipe.

"In the current context, to me, it is over. Let's say that at the moment it is terminated.

"I like Chamakh, he is a forward that attracts me, but I already have (Theo) Walcott, (Nicklas) Bendtner, (Robin) Van Persie, (Andriy) Arshavin and Eduardo. I am in no rush.

"My offer seems fair to me, taking the market into account. Chamakh would be good, but there are other options should we wish to pursue them."

Quote
With his patience pushed to breaking point, Wenger will be pleased to hear that Bordeaux could be about to lower their demands.

Club chairman Jean-Louis Triaud has revealed that he may be prepared to slash the €18million (£15.3m) price-tag recently placed on Chamakh's head.

"I am an admirer of Marouane's qualities and that is why I set the price so high," he said.

"I will admit that the fee I quoted is excessive, but Arsenal's offer is still a long way short.

"I won't say that I will hold out for €18million, but Bordeaux need to benefit from this deal as well."

I see arsenal are doing what many big clubs do- find a player they want with a high valuation, wait for someone to bid for him, if that team isnt another big 4 type club, then offer a lot less as this will unsettle the player, he wont go to the club that made the initial, higher offer as he wants the glamourous move, and the selling club are forced to reduce their demanads

I'm quite glad tbh, i have never watched chamakh so cant comment on his ability, but bordeaux seem like a right set of cu**s. SAFC made a bid (about 12million) and blanc wouldnt let the transfer happen becuase he wanted chamakh to go to a "big club" (cheeky french tw**, we're a bloody bigger club than his pathetic outfit)- now he will do just that, but it will mean bordeaux make a fair few million less, unlucky laurent

i must admit, im surprised your lot are after him. Before arsenals apparent interest, he only had SAFC, blackburn and fulham after him, seems a bit strange that wenger would suddenly get interested, especially with the lads fairly poor goal return in what is a weak league

With regards to sunderland, he said he would be prepared to join us "for 2 years then move onto a bigger club", so if he was to come to SAFC, he wouldnt be sticking around. Probably the best plan is for wenger to let him come to SAFC to see if he can cope in the prem and then buy him later (admittedly for what would be a higher fee) if he impresses

I cant say i'm too fussed as i havent seen him play on tele or anything (well, i might have done, but i certainly dont remember him!) and, as i mentioned, his goalscoring record is average at best (46 goals in 192 games according to wiki).

Mind, if arsenal can get him cheap then you could always sign him for 6 million or so, we'll pay you a million to loan him for the season, if he's good you take him back and if he's average we'd probably buy him off you for the other 5 million, meaning that we both win and bordeaux end up with a crap transfer fee

Actually, it's the president of Bordeaux, Triaud, who refuse to sell him to Sunderland. A lot of people in France don't understand why Chamakh, who is champion with Bordeaux, where he would play the champion's league, would go to a Club like Sunderland.

But for him it would be a great move imo, he's a good target man and he's the kind of striker who can do well in Clubs like Sunderland. And to play in Prmeier League is very attractive. And there's much more passion, and great fans at Sunderland than at Bordeaux. So If he goes to Sunderland I understand his choice.
