Celtic away record in Europe is shocking and they werena that great against an average Dynamo Moscow team.

Barring a freak result in the home leg, shouldna have too much to worry about.

If they are on par with Rangers then there's not much to fear.

The biggest threat will be how the players cope with their atmosphere.
I don't think it will be easy as they will be up for it big time, but they are not a great team. If our standards have slipped so far that we cannot beat the runner's up in one of the worst league's in Europe then we just don't deserve to mix it with Europe's biggest and best.
Couldnt agree more! But i dont see us beating them up there, the best we can hope for is a score draw.

Its all down to what we do at home... Personally, not really looking forward to this one!
Why cant we beat them up there? Its a big atmosphere, but when it comes to a football match I think we will have too much for a team that is mid-prem level at best!
So are fulham arnt they? And stoke? and Hull are lower then that, but we still didnt manage to beat them.

Our players have a habbit of thinking they can just turn up to win, and if they do that at Celtic Park, we will loose the game.
I didnt see much arrogance after the Hull game, and the club knows how important this will be for the club. Roma has a big atmosphere and we had everything stacked against us, but we got through that - San Siro the same. I wouldnt have chosen Celtic, but i can see us being too much for them - especially as Mowbray likes his teams to play football, which suits us.

Listen this a tie that we should def win over 2 legs but celtic are def a different beast at home and all you have to do is look at their results against some of europes biggest teams over recent seasons - I think barca were the first visiting team to win there for a few years 8) You also have to agree that some of our players have displayed a level of arrogance against so called lesser teams in the past so that too is a concern. They will play more football under mowbray than previous managers but with big samaras up top they wont be afraid to play high balls into our box to exploit our aerially challenged defense

Saying all that if our forwards are on their game then I would expect us to tear them asunder at home  If the result up there is either a draw or a defeat for us then it will be a close game at the grove unless we bag an early goal.

Any idea what date the home game is ? I have flights to book 8) :barscarf:

Here's a thought. Wenger said:

"Usually the transfer market only speeds up from August 26 up to midnight on August 31 – and especially in the last two hours."

9:30pm on August 26th is the time we’ll know if we’re in the group phases of the CL or not. It’s at that point we’ll know if we’ve got the ludicrous money from Europe’s top table, or if we’re £30mil down. If we stumble against Celtic, is the money available for transfers and from the sale of Kolo, Greedybollocks and potentially Senderos going to fill that gap?

Ultimate game of roulette anyone?

Just because Mowbray likes his team playing football dont mean they wont get physical with our lot. I can see them trying to kick the shit out of players at any chance they get.

Its not the atmosphere im worried about mate, its the fact that the Celtic player will be well up for it, and our lot have to match it, otherwise they risk playing in the europa league next year.

In a way I was hoping that we would draw athletico madrid - I was hoping that it would force wenger to strengthen now rather than play that game of russian roulette with our hopes for the season  Saying all that wengers transfer talk is 95% bullshit anyway

NBM I was hoping for something a bit more definite than either the 25th or the 26th mate - the airline companies are quite funny about requiring a definite date for my trip

Fuck me, one minute we are going to win the league and all is well and now we seem to be shitting ourselves over Celtic!

Now I am not saying this is going to be a walk in the park but if you want to play in the top club competition in the world and al that stands in your was in the Scottish runners up you have to be fairly happy surely!

As for the atmosphere, it is Glasgow not fucking Beirut! I am sure we will get a nice warm welcome but honestly what else would you expect?

I'm not sure this Arsneal team really intimidated by atmosphere - look at Fernbache and Roma away last season. They like being underdogs. We're much more under par when the home crowd is quiet and tutting...

I absolutely agree gus but all I am saying is that taking any opposition for granted is naive and stupid and has bitten us in the arse as recently as last season  We have some members on here that view our team as almost on the same level as our quality teams from earlier this decade and sadly that aint true and imo we are no longer good enough to take teams for granted cos our quality and mentality is nowhere near as strong as it should be

I agree bt but in this tie we will be hot favourites and this team hasnt shown that they have the character and backbone to deal with being the favourites up to this point
