I just think AW is taking his time over Vela, considering he played the whole of July in the Gold Cup.

Blimey Augie, that really crossed your mind? - you're a suspicious sod, aren't ya!

Oddly enough, I actually think this system suits Theo, Wilshere and Vela perfectly!

Theo has the pace and energy to defend and support the striker, and he does have a knack of getting into decent scoring positions from wide areas. Ok, the more negative observer would point out that he tends to miss those chances, but as Wenger said about Bendtner... a player who misses chances at 20, scores them at 22 (well, he said something like that). And I agree with that; as Theo gets older, I think he'll score plenty of goals, but at the moment, I don't think he's an out and out striker, so playing wide forward in a 4-3-3 suits him, in my opinion.

Vela is similar to Theo, but with more craft and he's a better finisher. He played on the wing when on loan in Spain, and I think his pace and craft means he can do that well... and he has the qualities of a goalscorer too, so I think playing wide forward of a 4-3-3 suits him, too!

Wilshere is also capable of doing well on either wing, as he has such quality and craft. But, he would also be happy playing in a central midfield 3, where he would have more freedom to attack than from out wide, and have the benefit of 2 midfielders alongside him to help out defensively.... so eventually, I can see him filling the role Cesc is playing at the moment.

So, yeah... I think the system suits all 3 players.

paper thin squad not used to playing mid-week going all out against a very real threat from brum tonight plays right into our hands, potentially 3 very convincing wins to take oop north as a vote of confidence in the quality of our team.

it will be interesting to see how united fare at burnley, whether or not they can get into any kind of stride, as they are notoriously slow starters, we have a decent chance providing our quality and commitment stays high so the pompey game is essential.

Pompey looked dreadful last night, plus did you see David James' kit??????

We shouldn't be to cocky but given the state of Pompey's squad and all the off-field uncertainty it should be a game we can win comfortably. An early goal will be important.

3-0 to the Gooners I reckon

couldn't agree more, g88ner. i think vela, wilshere and walcott are even more adaptable to our scheme than van persie and bendtner, for example. vela and walcott are natural born wingers, too offensive and crafty for right or left side midfielders, and too small and not physical for a striker partnership. perfect wingers in a 4-3-3. wilshere can play anywhere, the little bastard. i guess he could a job in goal if almunia gets injured...

I am still waiting to see vela this season and am wondering what the fcuk is going on there :? If we are going to loan him out then fcuking do it now and move on otherwise give the kid a chance ffs. Right now I am really struggling to see where players like theo and wilshire (and possibly vela) will fit into this new system - if wenger (for some unknown reason  ) see's rvp as the figurehead instead of bedtner then where does these guys fit in when they get a game ? I would have thought that bedtner up top flanked by arshavin and rvp allows theo/wilshire/vela to rotate in for either of the wing men without altering our game plan too much but now if they sub in for bedtner we would be going from having a giant on the wing to having a midget and then changes your game plan drastically. Anyway I dont like the system much but what do I know
I think Vela will be back up for Arshavin, Walcott and Bentner will fight it out on the other side while Eduardo and Van Persie will share that slot.

I don't see a place for Wilshere just yet, he'll be in and out untill Cesc goes I think.

I think he was injured for most of it. Played a bit but not all.

I'm hoping we can keep a clean sheet here. Pompy shouldn't provide much attacking threat. Just need to keep the croation guy (the name escapes me) quite and it should be faily straight forward.
