PORTSMOUTH THREAD
the performance wasn't the best, but hey, its another win and more goals in the bag.
was quite odd how flat some of the players seems - arshavin, at times, looked like he was bored!! he then took a corner by back heeling it to cesc!
think we missed song today. denilson just cannot play the dm role. we looked suspectable when they broke because diaby was always stranded upfield and denilson was no where near them.
though TV had a decent game, as did Eboue - just frustrating Almunia got beaten in the mannor he did - i thought goalkeepers were taught to take the ball at it's heighest point?!
overall, although the atmosphere was flat, the boys looked dangerous - despite never getting out of 2nd gear.

when we win the bloody treble, you'll all be saying "ah, but it was a boring match, rvp should be scoring more, almunia shouldn't have conceded that goal..."
come on lads, 10 goals in two PL matches and you're complaining? i don't care if it's my dog or RVP scoring, it's bloody ARSENAL at the top of the league with 10 goals and two excellent victories. i don't mind if almunia does a manninger every week as long as we keep this freescoring attitude.
gallas will be leading goalscorer this season - and none with his foot or by purpose...

That would be the Manninger who kept 6 clean sheets in a row, including one at OT in the title run in in 1998 would it?Almunia can only dream of doing thatbrazilianGOONER wrote: i don't mind if almunia does a manninger every week as long as we keep this freescoring attitude.

Snap. Had to have a lie down for a bit. Getting 103 to sing up is going to be a challenge and a half through, Christ.Lost_Gooner wrote:Just got back and im done , lost my voice for a bit![]()

Diaby had a good game...
No I am awake. He did. So did...Eboue Portsmouth look doomed though.
They painted the concrete bit pitchside at last but the cannon on the seats just looks like a white blob from up where I am.

A bit more praise for Diaby wouldn't go amiss.
I know I am biased but I thought he was excellent in the first half today and showed the kind of energy/drive that had the Scousers running scared of him in that CL Qtr final.
Yes he has his faults but he has far more positives and I for one feel he could be pivotal for us this year.
Lets hear it for the THE DESTROYER!!!

Was chatting to two older Pompey fans on the train on the way home, nice old blokes, but they made me realise just how spoilt we've been under Wenger.
It's all too common to hear Gooners slagging off the likes of Eboue, Denilson, Song, Diaby etc but these two old boys had nothing but praise for our squad, remarking how "the way Arsenal move the ball through midfield is just glorious" and that they'd "give anything for their team to play the way we do"

After todays game with fabregas going off injured at half time, we really cant afford for him to be missing next week at united and what wenger says here is concerning
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas was replaced at half-time by Aaron Ramsey.
And Wenger revealed the Spain midfielder could be out for a fortnight if his hamstring problem proves serious.
He added: "If it is a little pull, he will be out for three weeks, if it is just tightness, maybe he can get away for Wednesday.
"In 48 hours, we will have a better view".
Also here on skysports.com i dont understand why wenger played him for the whole 90 mins at celtic and then started cesc today, its a gamble that was not worth taking. We are playing well and at the start of a season any slight knocks should not be risked
"We went into the game with him a little bit injured and he made it worse, so let's see how it goes,"
After a flying start there is a possibillity we will be heading into two important and tough games without 1 of our best players

i am 100% sure that if this was 2000 you would be calling manninger a bitch. manninger was inconsistent, something a good goalkeeper can never be (remember barthez? or vitor baÃa?). and the only reason almunia did not win us that first leg of a champions league semifinal is because our team was shit that day, almunia himself was god.donaldo wrote:That would be the Manninger who kept 6 clean sheets in a row, including one at OT in the title run in in 1998 would it?Almunia can only dream of doing thatbrazilianGOONER wrote: i don't mind if almunia does a manninger every week as long as we keep this freescoring attitude.

i don't think he is a seaman, he isn't, but flaws like today are not normal. last season he was one of the premiership's best goalkeepers.
and please, guys, cut that crap on gay given. he is not the same he was a few years ago.

I was pleased with todays game, i dont think it was quite as good as the performance at Everton and i dont just mean goals wise, i think we looked alot better denfensively at Everton, but another win and more goals is always a good thing.
Gallas is abit of a goal machine at the moment 3 in 3, good to see goals coming from different poisitons on the pitch.
Again my only gripe is about Fabregas playing, i said on the celtic thread he should have come off with 10mins to go and rest his hammy and got abit of stick about it thats come round to stich us up like RTP said 3 weeks missing utd away is a big blow.
Why bother risking him if he knew he was injured and even worst knew we had utd away coming up next week???
p.s that post isnt ment to sound as negative as it does because the result was good again with 10 goals in 2 matches is a flying start.

Would you say there was any direct correlation between Diaby not starting on the left and playing well in a more natural central position?Step wrote:A bit more praise for Diaby wouldn't go amiss.
