Foreign or home grown
I'm with the majority, and would answer in the style of Wayno: "Couldn't give a shit". It's all about technical ability and character.
I can't stand whinges about too many foreigners in English football because:
1. Unlike footballers from just about every other part of the world, English players are fucking shit about going abroad to get first team football and develop themselves. They prefer to trouser great Premier League money for being squad players. Without ambition, they deserve no special treatment, and the sooner they learn that, the better.
2. Having lots of foreign players at some clubs means the good English ones end up at clubs they wouldn't have in years gone by (esp given that they don't go abroad). So, the lower reaches of the Premier League and even the Championship are now much better represented in British and Irish national squads.
3. The standard of football that Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Fabregas, Vieira, van Persie, Overmars etc, as well as Cantona, Zola, di Canio, Essien, Drogba, Torres, Berbatov, Schmeichel, Cech, Ronaldo etc, have brought is so much higher than we had before.

a very good point sir. If this poll is about homegrown over foreign, i'd PREFER homegrown IF it was good enough, but what AW has managed to do is find worldclass young talent from across Europe and AFrica. Growing up, my main idols were Smudge, Wright, Adams, and Limpar, so in the majority British, and i have always thought it was good for youngsters to have a british (or irishTheOne2Smooth wrote:ask yourself this Question Cesc Fabregas for free or Michael Carrick for 18 mil. In a ideal world most Arsenal fans would prefer homegrown trouble is homegrown is not affordable.

Ultimately, i dont really give a shit either as long as they're good enough!!

THERE COULD BE AN AMBIGUITY AS TO WHAT PEOPLE ARE REALLY VOTING FOR.
THE POLL COULD HAVE READ: 'DO YOU CARE THAT FEW ARSENAL PLAYERS ARE BRITISH?', WITH THE YES OR NO OPTION. ALTERNATIVELY YOU COULD HAVE ASKED: 'DO YOU THINK ARSENAL SHOULD HAVE MORE BRITISH PLAYERS?', AGAIN WITH THE YES OR NO OPTION, ALTHOUGH IT IS A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT QUESTION.
AS THE POLL IS NOW, ASKING 'FOREIGN OR HOMEGROWN' AND PUTTING YES/NO IS CONFUSING. THAT QUESTION WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER SUPPORTED WITH THE OPTIONS TO CHOOSE EITHER 'FOREIGN' OR 'BRITISH'.
HOPE YOU DON'T MIND ME POINTING THIS OUT.

I'm not English but anyway i would like to see more English players in the Arsenal, maybe change the politics of the youth and try to keap all this young great English players in the team. I dont have that feelling about suporting the club where albanians play but definitelly if an albaian plays for Arsenal than there will be more Arsenal fans from my area, maybe the most supported club by albanians. And i read rumors about interest on Valon Behrami an Kosovar born with Switzerland nationality, maybe it will became true because he is a wery good player and is not going long with the coach in the Lazio.

YOU SEE CORKBARRY, EVEN GUS IS CONFUSED (WHAT DO YOU MEAN, HE ALWAYS IS?gus ceasar is a legend wrote:I thought it was about drugs personally!

ANYWAY, IT ONLY BACKS UP MY POINT THAT THE POLL AS IT WAS PHRASED WAS A LITTLE AMBIGUOUS. THAT'S THE REASON I GAVE A DIFFERENT ANSWER IN MY FIRST POST ON THIS THREAD, JUST IN CASE!

I remember the outcry when we signed Charlie Nicholas. He wasn't even the first foreigner! Was there one before Ian Ure? At the end of the day, and to quote several people, I support the team. I supported them before they signed the first frenchman and willl still be supporting them when the last one is gone.
Yeah, there was a striker in the 50's called Jean-Francois McStealyourjobs.patricetastygoal wrote:I remember the outcry when we signed Charlie Nicholas. He wasn't even the first foreigner!
