Is Wenger in the last chance saloon?

Ok, now the window has closed (assuming there's no deals for Arsenal to be announced late), what do people feel about the Wenger situation now?

For the last couple of months we've been debating who he should buy and a lot of people have been saying judge him by deadline day etc etc.
In not buying anyone, Wenger has potentially put his Arsenal career on the line. With around 10,000 fans not renewing or taking up ST's this season, what will happen if we have another season of no trophies and more importantly if we don't really challenge for the top prizes?
This is a hypothetical question of course but it would be interesting to hear what everyone thinks now another transfer deadline has passed and he still hasn't strengthened midfield or even central defence, where most of us seem to agree a decent back up is needed to TV and Gallas?

Funny as I was thinking along the same lines.

Looking at the team with special notice to the youth. Yes, there are a few more to come but the production line of 'talent' appears to have ground to a halt.
If you think about our C/C team it could be quite weak.

01 - i do think djourou and senderos are enough backup for tv and willie. i am not worried about our centrebacks.

02 - i don't think we won't even challenge for honours. i actually think we may win some.

03 - even if we don't, i won't be a part of the antiwenger squad.

The club have openly said that money was available if required and if Wenger's insistence not to use it backfires on him then he is fucked.

Arsene now has to stand or fall by his decision not ot add depth and quality to the squad and if we fail to secure a Champions League place then he will have failed and so should be removed from his position.

I think that this is one Wenger gamble too far and that he may well have jeopardised the clubs status.

Ostensibly, I'd agree with you. But matters can change very, very quickly as we may well see in the next 15 months.

What this really does day - beyond any question, is how truly appalling Arsenal's finaces really are !

We have taken in Â£40 million from players flogged on yet only been able to spend one quarter of that on one player coming in.

Every season we must assest strip the squad to keep going. Farbregas is next out the door on May 2010. As a by-the-by, Club Level has vast swathes of unsold season tickets that they can now only fill on a match by match basis if at all.

Put that together with the already abysmal financial situation and you have the very oppositie of a virtuous cycle.

If we do fail again this season - and I can't really see any other outcome - and Fabregas does depart, then Wenger's position will be untenable. At that point, his 'job for life' will cease

brazilian, your very silly.

the current squad won't compete over the course of a season. another year without a major trophy and wenger has the money then he will have to go and if that situation arises i will be glad to see the back of him. a great manager in the past undoubedtly but he has lost the plot and made his project more important than the clubs success.

I am a little worried that we did not get another CDM but that was the only position we needed to get anybody in.

If people are saying we have crap finances then that is not Wengers fault and do they not think wenger is the best person to do the job on tight finances?

fair enough, TPM, but in my opinion the silly man here is you (see, without arguments we will call each other stupid things for hours. by the way, i'm brazilian, but it is "you're very silly", not "your very silly").

i think we are forgetting the wonderful start we made to the season, which would be even better if it wasn't for diaby's terrible mistake on saturday. i wanted a DM, but i'm supporting the team and manager instead of running around like a headless chicken screaming "we're doomed!" (if a headless chicken can scream something...), and that's a personal choice - i'm hanging to the good start we've made even without great players that are about to return like rosicky, walcott, nasri, and even fabregas who you should remember we had not for our match with united.

i am still positive, and you are totally entitled to say and believe otherwise, but you are totally not entitled to say i'm silly for thinking we can keep the good work we are doing so far this season. i believe one thing, you believe another, let's show our points of view and in the end of the season, well, then we can call each other silly for having believed something that didn't happen.

i still think it will be a good season for us.

By then it will be too late it takes a few games to get used to a team and by the time he is ready Song will be back so there is no point in speanding money on someone who will do nothing for the team.

Why is our youth system being condemned? It is regularly providing England youth internationals at the moment and just won a youth cup, of course only a few will make it here but that was always the case. As for Carling Cup side, predict Fabianski/Mannoe; Eboue-Senderos-Djouru-Traore; Ramsey-Diaby-Nasri/Sicknote; Vela-Eduardo-Walcott. Depending on who isn't a first choice at the club

Cb cover? If Senderos is ahead of Tweety then fine but if Silvestere is 4th choice cb and Song gets injured or tired, Wenger will have a lot to answer for. Got all sorts of attacking depth, the failure to get a dm cover will bite us even if Song stays fit
