the playing mantis wrote:wenger has money to spend this summer a significant amount too.

the youth system is being derided as the club have failed ato win any trophy in 4 years and failed to mount a serious challenge in to a major trophy in all but 2 of those years (i mean league or CL).

how can a squad that is undeniably weaker than last year (i wanted toure and elephant washer out as i thought they would be replaced), hope to improve on the woeful (for arsenal) performance last season??? how? none of the failings of last year have been addressed (vermalean a great signing so far but still no CB depth).

Stop going on about the good start to the season, everton were distracted and abysmal, pompey are turd, as are celtic and Man U look decidely off colour (and not because we made them look off colour they werent harrassing our players or closing down like they usually do) yet still won when it mattered.

the fact that 2 or 3 proper signings could catapult this team to serious contenders is the main issue that annoys people why needlessly hamper yourself by not spending????? it makes no sense.

i can really see man city and sperz in the mix for top 4 with us relying on liverpools malaise to sneak in maybe. But we will definetely not challenge for the major honours come squeaky bum time
tPM, let me start saying that i am also frustrated - as it seems, we have enough cash and should have bought at least a new DM, and i think that maybe a new goalkeeper as well. but my arguments on why we should not be that much worried are based on the following:

what took us out of the league race last season was NOT how we managed the big difficult games. remember hull and stoke at home? remember fulham in the second match of the season? well, those were matches are not different to everton, portsmouth and celtic!! if you win both matches against the 10 lowest teams in the table, that's 60 points. it makes you need only 20 something points in the other 18 matches!! look at manure and liverpool last season, they were not well against the other top 4 teams, and we only lost one match, chelsea at home! the thing is, manure didn't drop points to lower teams!
so NO, i will not accept any argument that our great start to the season should be forgot - it IS very good to see the way the team are performing.
you say we lost two major players and are so a lot worse than last season. that does not sound any correct to me! we are marking a lot tighter, making the other teams make mistakes at their own side of the pitch, we adopted a tactic that makes our midfield work a lot better both defensively and offensively, we have eduardo who is a wonderful player back, how can you say we are not better? vermaelen looks much more reliable than touré and brilliant in the air, which was probably our biggest defensive problem, that is a GREAT improvement!

i am frustrated that we didn't buy. i really am. but there is a big difference between that and saying the season is lost, specially now that the team gelled so well.

i'm confident, and i'm backing this team for another season.

exactly, IHH!!! good boy! :barscarf:

seriously, i can see us challenging for the title, percy. i don't see why our squad isn't better than liverpool's or manure's or shitty's. i really don't.

i think we can beat anyone in the premiership, and the game against manure, even though we lost, proved that. it is no doubt to me that almunia; sagna, gallas,tv,clichy; song, cesc, nasri; arshavin, eduardo, rvp is a wonderful team, and that djourou, denilson, rosicky, walcott, vela, wilshere, ramsey, nic and vela are some of the very good replacements we have for when its necessary. i think united doesn't have decent cover for defense and not even decent first team wingers, i think liverpool has only one striker and i think chelsea, well i think chelsea has a very good team, but not much better than ours, and it is an aging team.

no, i won't be happy with top 4, i want to be champions again, i want a double, a treble, a quadruple, whatever, and i really do think this team can do it.

i know i'm the rare species nowadays, but in wenger i still trust.

On what do you base your trust in Wenger.Even Stevie Wonder could see we needed another CH.a DM and a 20 goal a season striker.Wenger has failed to indentify this again. We are in a fight for 4th place again. That is not good enough. If we had spend 30 out of the 40m we got from City we would be challengers

Listen I am not gloating here and it gives me no satisfaction to say this but havent I said all along that wenger would not make the necessary quality additions to the squad ? I argued since last jan that he should have been removed from power in the summer cos his inability to see the glaring weaknesses in the squad and properly correct them is seriously fcuking our chances of success. The wengerites said that he was aware of our shortcomings and would be taking the necessary actions in the summer so he shouldnt be removed from his position but I asked the question then and the question still remains today....what if he doesnt buy ? We have wasted yet another transfer window scratching our arses as 2 of our main rivals (shitty and the scum) have shown their intent with some serious purchases :x Contrary to what a lot of you believe it doesnt take a world class player to be an upgrade on the players we have so we def could have upgraded without the massive expenditure that some use as an excuse not to spend

well donaldo, then the only explanation to that is that i am "blinder" than stevie wonder. i don't think we need another CH now the senderos isn't going, and i think we definettly don't need another striker.

i would surely spend a good 15m in a DM, that's for sure. it would make me more confident of a title, but not spending it does not make me think we won't win something.

you are the one saying we're fighting for 4th, i say we're fighting for the league.

and the best thing is: i may be wrong, and so may you. :D

We do need another CH as both Silvestre and Senderos are a pile of horseshit

As for strikers RVP wont score 20 league goals,Eduardo WONT stay fit,Bendtner just isnt good enough and Vela well no one knows how good he is.Are you telling me you wouldnt have signed Huntelaar for 15m

Because the Arsenal board told everyone that he was a nasty man who made his money by selling crack and that he also eats kittens for dinner.

Most seem to have swallowed it!

We cant complain about The Board to spend yet at the same time complain if Usmanov makes a move - some are dead against it and that is there perogative.

I remain neutral on whom I would like to take over (if indeed it happens) but what I will say is at least Usmanov is putting idea's to raise cash into the public domain yet, I hear nowt from Kroenke.

The person who put forward the stories about Usmanov, I gather, wasnt exactly an angel himself.

no, i'm not saying we shouldn't, i'm saying i personaly wouldn't. i simply don't think huntelaar is that good. I see RVP scoring 20 goals easily, but I don't think that is necessary. I think 15 for him and 20 shared between the other two strikers is good enough to win the league, specially since we have a midfielder like fabregas, who can score lots of goals specially in our new formation, and two centrebacks who are also very dangerous in set pieces. Not to mention nasri who, when fit, is also capable of a lot of goals.

you say eduardo WONT stay fit. why are you sure? i see him missing 5-10 games because of minor injuries that are very common after his horrible injury, but i don't see why he can play a big part this season.

oh, and senderos was part of a very good team back in 2006. he was very very very far from "a pile of horseshit". he just needs to find consistency again, because when he plays well, he is wonderful. I'd be worried if he was 1st or 2nd choice, but he is 4th, so i think he is good enough for that.

It doesnt matter if Kroenke or Usmanov are running the club.Wenger wouldnt spend the money if they gave it too him.He will stubbornly pursue his youth is best policy come what may
