Which team names do you love ?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Which team names do you love ?

Post by SteveO 35 »

I love the fact that we've got a name that's steeped in history and gives us a real identity without it actually just being the name of a city / town on a map. Sometimes it pisses me off when you see us called "Arsenal London" on shit channels like Eurosport...

There are some other team names I love for different reasons - just amusement really

Red Bull Salzburg - just gives me an image of 11 adrenaline fuelled, turbo charged nutters recovering after a hangover !

Ards - I think they're an Irish team (Irish gooners confirm !). Just sounds like a pub team who've made up their name coz they're all "well ard"

Metallurgs - sounds like something from Doctor Who

and then some of the Northern non-league teams you see in the FA Cup qualifying rounds like Harrogate Railway Athletic and Leigh RMI. Always think of the lads with soot on their faces, kicking a pigs bladder round the street.

As for Young Boys Berne......just plain unfortunate

My dad’s team… Heart of Midlothian.

Apparently named after some monument to an old prison in Edinburgh. Or after some book about said old prison in Edinburgh. Or after a local dance hall which was named after said book about said old prison in Edinburgh in the first place.

On second thoughts it’s a shit name.
