BLAME THE DAYTRIPPERS
BLAME THE DAYTRIPPERS
there's a few posts on the wigan thread about the lack of singing ,atmosphere etc and it seems to be day trippers that get the blunt of this but remember there are 40000 season ticket holders at the grove so that leaves 17000 silver red etc so maybe its time to pass the blame somewhere else like onto the majority of season ticket holders maybe.
Re: BLAME THE DAYTRIPPERS
couldnt agree more, a bit unfair that they get all the blame although they are not helping the atmosphereREBEL GOONER wrote:there's a few posts on the wigan thread about the lack of singing ,atmosphere etc and it seems to be day trippers that get the blunt of this but remember there are 40000 season ticket holders at the grove so that leaves 17000 silver red etc so maybe its time to pass the blame somewhere else like onto the majority of season ticket holders maybe.
very true rebel. ive been saying this for a while now. another problem i have with ST holders is that when games for the 'lesser teams' take time to sell out, they all rise up blaming reds and silvers, saying things like 'oh where are all the red members now', when in fact its the season ticket holders who pass the 'opporutnity' to buy tickets for the games, or place their tickets for sale on the TX site.
regarding atmosphere, i can only say what ive seen from my own personal experience. i remember the Roma game at home last year, a young lad of about 14/15 2 rows in front, standing up waving his scarf in the air, a man in his 40s literally started screaming at this kid telling him to put his flag down and to 'SI-DOOOOOWN'. This guy may not have been ST holder, however, the fact that he too was with 2 of his own children in the family enclosure just gives me a feeling that he was. our stadium is home to a few grumpy *word censored*.

Agree with you Reb about the 40,000 season ticket holders not singing, when do they?
But around me Block 24,i have never seen as many fans not intersted in the game.More late comers than usual and Early half time leavers. The guy sitting in front of me missed 3 of the goals as he was either in the bog or was stuffing his face or both.

I think the constant jibes about Arsenal's home support are well justified. The majority expect the team to raise them rather than the other way round, which is the case at all grounds now particularly where the home side are heavy favourites to win. That said, its hard to get excited about Denilson playing five yard triangles with Clichy.
The only place to watch Arsenal is in the pub with your mates.

Something funny was going on. Up in 103 there were people wandering about (well after kick off) in white shirts and such who didn't seem to know where their seats were or indeed that they were at a football match.
Notably however, NO ONE tells us to "siddown" or attempts to leave early on our side of the row.
And we make an unholy racket throughout.

I actually think the atmosphere was pretty good today, as far as games against Wigan go. I was behind the goal next to away fans and was not terrible.REBEL GOONER wrote:there's a few posts on the wigan thread about the lack of singing ,atmosphere etc and it seems to be day trippers that get the blunt of this but remember there are 40000 season ticket holders at the grove so that leaves 17000 silver red etc so maybe its time to pass the blame somewhere else like onto the majority of season ticket holders maybe.
This is old ground, i have said the same thing on many ocassions, so once again:
Today there were PLENTY of empty seats so those that post messages on here knocking people who actually get off there arse and spend dough in my book haven't got a leg to stand on.
Tickets are available and you can get them, knocking people who actually go aint clever.

Reb, I'm not blaming the day trippers as the rest of the ground, and I'd include me to a degree, was equally to blame.
It was just odd...in Block 6 of all places...that the two regulars next to me weren't there. One to my left had passed on or sold the ticket back to the club whilst my right side was vacant!
I've not a problem with new blood as normally you get the old school Highbury boys returning.
The guy next to me looked like he was up for the game. Bald head, burley type fella. Looking like a typical west hame fan even sporting the yellow chequed shirt!
(Similar to Minty)
He spent the first half laughing at his texts. Then a call came through.
"yeah I'm at the Arsenal......Wigan......winning 1-0......that new Centre half"
I return for the 2nd half and he's gone! no not late. Gone!
That was until around the 70th minute when he walks back to his seat!
I know it shouldn't be the case but Wigan wasn't going to a game any Arsenal fan will be up for. i'm guessing even the red and silvers didn't bother. I know they all count. But there was a real pre-season feel to the game.
I tried, as many other did. but the up hill struggle was always a losing battle.

I was in the Family Enclosure as usual so just around from you. I too thought the atmosphere was OK. Obviously not the same as manure, scum etc but pretty decent. Also weirdly, no empty seats and hardly anybody left early at half time or full time.RVP2 wrote:I actually think the atmosphere was pretty good today, as far as games against Wigan go. So Boomer you can piss off with your derogatory comments about the Clock End. I think we were more vocal than you shower today and we finally got to see some goals up close.
