Just what's needed......another thread about the mythical lack of atmosphere at the Grove. Yawn

It really wasn't bad at all yesterday

Listen to the atmosphere at Old Trafford today if the Red Mancs aren't winning coming the first 10 minutes of the second half - it will be the usual morgue. Watched the highlights of Liverpool's game against Debrecen the other day - I thought someone had died and there was a period of 90 minutes silence.

The Premier League has too many mismatch games against the likes of Wigan and when the games get to 2-0 its game over. UEFA have hardly helped by allowing muppet teams into the Group stage of the CL - people want to see the best against the best. Whenever we play the Red Mancs, Bindippers, Chavs or Scummers the atmosphere is as good as anywhere else

Perhaps it's time for a thread moaning about people leaving early again too. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

first things first, it was not a thread about the lack or not of atmosphere, it started as a thread about people blaming day trippers on the wigan thread about how they are fcuking up the emirates and my point was there are 40000 season tickets at arsenal so why blame the 17000 non season ticket holders .

The majority expect the team to raise them rather than the other way round, which is the case at all grounds now particularly where the home side are heavy favourites to win. That said, its hard to get excited about Denilson playing five yard triangles with Clichy.

The only place to watch Arsenal is in the pub with your mates.
I agree. There is an expectation that we will thump a team like Wigan and the team don't need the crowd to gee them up to do it. If we don't start well it goes even quieter.

I actually think the atmosphere was pretty good today, as far as games against Wigan go. I was behind the goal next to away fans and was not terrible.
I was in the Family Enclosure as usual so just around from you. I too thought the atmosphere was OK. Obviously not the same as manure, scum etc but pretty decent. Also weirdly, no empty seats and hardly anybody left early at half time or full time.

So Boomer you can piss off with your derogatory comments about the Clock End. I think we were more vocal than you shower today and we finally got to see some goals up close. :barscarf: :barscarf:
Did I make any comment about the Clockend?

BTW..."We always score this [north] end"! :barscarf:
The Family Enclosure is the Clock End, so yes you did insult us. And the scoring is not your end it is we always score in the second half which for some reason is 95% your end. :finger:
I've checked back and I don't believe I've mentioned the FE or the Clock end? :?

Going onto Rebs main point about the 'Trippers' The majority of them will be of course Silvers and Reds. They'll bring some thing to the game. I think the 'real' problem is that with a game like Wigan being only a few games into the Season I'm guessing the majority of the regular attenders decided to save there money. Why pay £40+ now when you can save it for a better match later in the season.
So the fans which turned up yesturday had probably never been before. Which to a degree is great. It's brillant for Arsenal fans to have the opportunity, especially the young.
The flipside is I heard lots of complaints from regulars that due to fans entering the AG for the first time some didn't get in the ground until 5/10 minutes into the game.
I also noticed many young fans in adults seats. Again this is great as it was a family friendly game but you'll lose out on atmosphere. So you can't have it both ways.
I noticed a child...well a baby, no more then 2. Held on the mothers shoulder facing away for the whole game. I kind of felt sorry as the boy was far too young for a game and wasn't aware of it's surrounding. I don't think the mum enjoyed it either especially when you bare in mind the 'colour' of langauge that the child is subjected to.

sorry but radford suggest that due to many different circumstances many "new" season ticket holders are infact jcl's who have managed to get hold of them. there are a lot of die hard long term fans that due to a number of reasons were not able to get season tickets.

the old skool REAL Arsenal fan is still there.

Strange, you said that on Saturday mate, perhaps I'm getting deaf in my old age, as I couldn't hardly hear a thing from block 7. (I blame the acoustics and of course Eboue)

Do you know guys why there's no real 'singing areas'? where all the fans who want to sing and stand up could be gathered. I think it would help the atmosphere a lot, the Club should think about it.

I stood for the whole game (black 7), they didn't tell me, or others, to sit down once, they usually tend to have spates of telling you to sit down last season, but that seems, thankfully, to have gone out of the window recently.. :?

People nearer the back in block's 5 and 6 stand regardless the whole game and the atmos is generally better in that part of the ground.

Before i had my s.ticket a couple of yrs ago i used to sit everywhere and the problem is the atmos up in the skys in the upper tier it is non-existant up there

The stewards will try to ask supporters to sit down in blocks 5/6 but by the time they get half way* the back row will start up with one of the "Stand up" songs.

When the stewards are hot on this, as much as it can be tedious for others hearing it, the "Stand up" song ends up being song several times in a match.
Being in block 5 I’ve never realised how much this effects the other parts of the stadium.

I was pointing out the whole charade to my wife on her 1st visit to the grove and was sitting behind the goal. (block 8?)
As we were laughing at the Stewards attempts within seconds we were having to stand up!
It was then I realised how much of a knock on effect the song has. Especially in area's which don't stand as often it's can be quite tedious.

So to a degree the "Stand up" songs are caused by the Stewards.

*The stewards record in Block 5 from row '1' backwards is: Row 18!

I was in 113 on Saturday and noticed this knock on myself. "Stand up for The Arsenal" started in 22-23 and you could see it working its way around to 30-31 (kind of like watching a Mexican wave where people stayed standing) were it stopped. As Boomer said this may be tedious to some but at least it noise in the stadium.

Fair enough, but they could at least mix it up a bit. “Stand up for the Arsenalâ€
