Anyone??
Was expecting that....but it really annoys me when people say players are Shit, as you dont get into the Arsenal first team for a sustained period of time by being a shit footballer, Eboue, Diaby etc... are not shit footballers, they are just not the best of the best, people dont seem to realise that not every player can be the teams best player, some will differ in ability, but none are shit
The first and major requirement of a full back is that he should be able to defend. Anything else is going to be a bonus but if the basics are wrong you’ve got yourself a major liability.
No matter what else he may be good at Eboue fails massively in the only category that counts in my eyes. He simply cannot defend very well.

Absolutely 100% spot on!! As a former full-back/defender myself, nothing irritates me more than bad defensive play. I would also argue that what Eboue - and for that matter Clichy and a little less so Sagna - gives us going forward doesn't make up for the basic mistakes made at the back!!
Having said all that, I do admit that Eboue had a good all round game on Tuesday, although he was hardly pressured by the opposition. Still, I'd take Sagna over the Ivorian everyday of the week and twice on Sundays, as our mate Augie would say.
I concur with Swale here. Eboue has knuckled down and put in some good to exceptional performances since the disgraceful way he was treated by some fans last year.
In my opinion it shows bollocks to come back and play the way he has. Admittedly he still dives and 'lives on the edge' but many players in Arsenal's history have done those things and the fans turn a blind eye (Pires diving, Bergkamp elbowing, Wright two footing) because they are 'world class'! The simple fact is Eboue is a decent footballer, like Diaby, like Bendtner, like Denilson but there is this trend in the modern game to label people 'shit' or 'world class' especially, it seems by our fans. If your deemed 'world class' you can get away with these traits because 'that's what makes them great' but if you're just a normal player you become a scapegoat!
The simple fact is when your building a side the way Wenger is you're not going to have 11 world class players. You need players Like Eboue as they are characters, they will player wherever they're asked without moaning and they will try. So you might not like him (he probably doesn't like you!) but he is an Arsenal player and should get have our support.

Eboue . . . take a bow son!
Excellent post, especially the part about people labelling players world class or shit...that happens all too often
Even in my sunday team, we turn up to play and someone will say, their number 10 is world class, or their defenders are complete shit...when in actual fact, they are both probably alright, but ones slightly better!
I don't think you should be tainting all of us with the same label!! Most of us on here know the real 'World Class' players in our team/squad. We're also just as able to identify the dross in our team/squad - unlike some. And not even the mighty Wenger can distinguish between the two all of the time!!

ok, but if that is true than gael clichy is not a very good fullback. he is only good, not excellent, at defending. that sort of concept of defend-first fullbacks is what makes people play centrebacks as fullbacks and i fucking hate when people do that.
you probably will never agree with me (and fabregas and half of the arsenal team) then that roberto carlos and cafu were the best fullbacks of the latest few 10-20 years. both brilliant attacking, and only good defending (except cafu, who still wasn't excellent).
i think fullbacks have to be good defending, good attacking, and have insane stamina, pace and positioning. that's what makes a good fullback imo.
lincs123 wrote:swale gooner i agree with everything you said. he really has proved the critics wrong.
dont wanna see him play right mid again, but at right back, especially at home, he has looked very good. congrats mr eboue....keep up the good work
mate radford says "ure avin a laugh, proving critics wrong? he's shit" jesus wept
Swale suggests that Radfords oppinion isnt the be all and end all unfortunately! Just because you say he is shit doesnt actually mean its true, I dont think Wenger would play shit players in his first team and im pretty sure Wenger is in a far better position to judge how a player is performing than you!
Eboue has done well after the way he was treated last season (which was a disgrace) and is clearly improving
Sorry Swale but Aw has and does play shit players or lplayers with less than normal ability. check out the shit players thread and you'll be up to speed. as for treatment of the village idiot last season....well it was entirey justified as it was without the worst and most inept "performance" seen by a "player" in years. the crowd got on his back after pass after pass went to the opposition.
to say he has done well since then is to ignore how rubbish/shit he was before the wigan game and how low expectations are now at the club.
those that choose to defend this clown really do need to see that.
