Doubtless this will induce apoplexy amongst the more refined 'Rose Tinters'.............but..................... I've never been convinced by Walcott and todays cameo - an entirely fair tackle where matey got the ball but 'carried on' to him - just as Walcott 'carried on' through his tackle, says it all.

Over hyped, over rated, flash-in-the-pan type of player who would have been exposed and discarded long ago in another era - say the early or late '70s.

Now exists in a bubble of hype; but still to complete 90 Arsenal minutes after 4 + years

What does that tell you ??????

He might still come good and if he does I'll happily doff my hat to him for confounding my - lowly - expecations.

Otherwise...............Don't bother........ 8)

i meant that actually warrented cards, the amount of dirty tackles and tackles from behind they got away with was ridiculous.

Overhyped maybe, but that's not his fault. It's English press + English kid with a bit of talent = mayhem.

He's certainly got the ability, just unlucky with injury. Unfortunately English football doesn't lend itself to quick lightweight players.... Ronaldo and Henry were freaks who just didn't get injured often. Players like him get a "marker" left on them early in the game, which in this case was enough to end his match.

As a side note, Birmingham injured Eduardo by a "hard" challenge early into the match. I'm fairly sure another player had his leg broken in the opening minutes against Brum fairly recently. Their manager is clearly directing their players to lay down such a "marker". Fucking ginger *word censored*.

Wonder if he has regrets with his big seson for me and England interview ( cus i dont think you will be anywhere near South Africa )

I think Theo adds a variety to our game that is invaluable. Yes we are a quick team anyway, but that tends to be on the break. He has the pace to leave markers for dead.

I agree that Ridgewells tackle was fair but I have seen plenty of Arsenal players booked for taking the man as well as the ball. Birmingham don't have any real flair players at the moment, so only have tenacity as a style to try and cope at this level. Time and £40 million will tell if this changes

Good post and one I completely agree with. When everyone is fit ( if??) he'll be no more than a bit part player as the others in his position are all better options. Sadly the English media and many of our own fans are totally in love with him even though he does fuck all. It was also a great tackle from Ridgewell fwiw.

Walcott was definately hyped up far too early but you guys seem to be forgetting that he is only 20 and has spent a crucial year of his development on the treatment table. Now, I agree a player who spends his entire time injured is of no use regardless of ability so we just have to hope he's hit a string of bad luck.

In my opinion, Walcott's development will depend entirely on his own frame of mind. He needs to resist the seduction attempts from the English media and realise that he is only 20 and needs to put his head down and work hard to mature as a player.

My fear for Walcott is that he has to spend a good portion of a season injury-free and on the bench. At this point if his frame of mind isnt right I fear he may make some bad career decisions.

My point being, just as people hyped him far too early I think some of you are writing him off far too early.

Walcott is a fascinating enigma but is seriously worth his place in any team. He has blistering pace and has the ability to beat people at will. His real problem is confidence which does seem to affect a number of our players when things are not going so well.
