Why don't we play rough?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why don't we play rough?

Post by 123456arsenal »

If a player on my team was to get hacked down I would have a few heated words with the offender and say something like "do that again and i'll fucking break your legs" and then order the players on my side to go in rough on him with lots of 50-50 tackles. The players don't do that which is a shame.

If you were a stocky English player, like Lee Carsley, and Denilson came up to you and said "I'm going to break your fucking legs, *word censored*", would you take any notice?

Nah, me neither :D

we don't have to break opposition's legs. we pass the ball beautifully around them until they fall to the ground, dizzy with the flair and quality of our game.

that's the arsenal :barscarf: :barscarf:

Because we are the nouveau Arsenal. Remember we used to be rough and even a bit dirty in the pre-new stadium era. We played proper fast fluid football back then too but we also had players who could take care of themselves. Nowadays we have a lot of youngsters who lack the maturity and mental strength that people like Vieira, Henry, Pires, Lauren and even that whore Cashley had. These guys knew what to do with little noisy stuck-ups who do their best to foul you at every opportunity and rough you up. At the end of the day, it all comes down to experience really.

 Maybe if we had a midfielder like in the souness, storey etc mould it might give the rest the fight there sometimes seem to lack. The lesser teams know we haven't a what you call a hard midfielder so there don't expect any retribution(sometimes thou i've tried to get on the pitch and alter that)so go around kicking us,i:e Blackburn, bolton.

You see teams like these are managered,it's sad,by mostly english ex-players who still think the games in the 70's still. It shows there lack of tactical skill and blinkered vision of the game and purely ignorance.Dinosaurs like these will hopefully drop down the leagues and let up and coming new managers who have learnt properly how to play the game manager in the big league?

i read somewhere what happened in a north-london derby in 1964/1965 season...after a rough foul by tony marchi and an AFC player the match turned in a brawl...Frankie McLintock used the same grace against jimmy greaves...everyone into the pitch was ready to die (writing the same words of Frank) for his teammates...this is what we need...first to hit doesnt hurt, but sometimes got the shower before final whistle...we havent anger needed to do this...players indicated to tackle maybe are lighter/powerless than they must be, thinking about song or gallas destroying opposite forwards...naah...maybe the only able to do good evil tackles is Fabregas 8)

Two reasons for this -

(a) wenger wants kids and not men playing for him so we dont have the physical assets needed to "assert ourselves" &
(b) these kids that wenger prefers signing are all fcuking 5ft 8" midgets hence the constant injuries as soon as any of the nasty opposition players tackle us in an non peaceful way

Because we've got the ball 90% of the game.

Barcelona doesnt play rough, but they've won the Champion's League last season. The teams that play rough like Birmingham, Bolton, Blackburn, etc .. will struggle to stay in Premier League. I dont envy them.

Mcleish seems to be the main perpetrator of injury to us though. Eduardo injured after 3 minutes and Walcott after 7, could there be a little incitement from the manager here.

why don't we play dirty

Post by Nos89 »

Did anyone else see Eboue elbow Mcfadden on at least 3 occaision, and blatantly push and kick him? It had Mcfadden crying to the ref at half time as they came off.

Anyone spot Vermaelan run 20 yards to take out one of their forwards in the second half? It was worse than Ridgewell challenge as he made no attempt to play the ball.

Personnally, I thought the best response was from Theo himself when he came back on, and made a fool out of Ridgewell, skinned the defence and brought a good save out of Hart.

We can and do play dirty, we're just really subtle about it

and still, we're able to play the beautiful game, as seen on our THREE goals, being the 'pussies' we seem to be.

Why don't we play rough? Now that's a question I ask the girlfriend almost every night!!

Along with 'why won't you let me in the back tunnel'; 'who told you it's painful and could do internal damage?' and the eternally frustrating 'where did you hear that swallowing a man's load doesn't taste very good?' :banghead: :banghead:
