The Northbank used to do a good rendition of "When you're smiling" especially when we used to exagerate the last line..
"The whole... world... smiles ...with.... you" and then cheer.
Or " Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner" was always sung well and after the last line "Maybe it's because I'm A Londoner that I love London town" a few would always add " Get off me sister!"
Shame we don't seem to have the same range of songs now but it does seem to have changed since the old Northbank was pulled down.

The pre-match music at AG cracks me up, it's so badly thought out. In the 20 mins or so before kick off all manner of punchy, hyped-up tracks are played; Club Foot, Carnival De Paris etc (any of which would be better than Elvis). Then just prior to the teams coming out, as the anticipation & atmosphere should be reaching a crescendo the DJ drops the coma-inducing TWOY & the whole crowd vibe just dies. Not to mention the fact that it always comes out about 20 times quieter than the previous tracks. It's horrible to see.
London Calling or Good Old Arsenal get my vote, maybe with re-worked, modern lyrics?

Puppet on a String
Does anyone remember when this used to be sung by a good section of the support around the late 80s. I remember a good rendition after the littlewoods semi against spurs.
Anyway Good Old Arsenal should be played. Either that or 'Paddy'. Elvis isn't linked to Arsenal in any way, those two songs are. And the point of an anthem is to be able to sign alone, who the fucks gonna sing along to Kasabian on masse? even if they are a great band

oh yeah does anyone remember that Nike Ad a year ago and it shown the arsenal players and playing great teams at Emirates. Well the music in the background really suited Arsenal style of play even the lyrics as it had an high tempo to go with arsenal's slick passing skills.
If not you should check the link out below really good showing the official ad.

Surely that would suggest we're getting relegated??franksav63 wrote:Hmmm, I don't remember this poll, but London Calling is good, how about Going Underground by The Jam?

I'd like to take issue with some of the things in Charlie Croker's article. If you compare to probably the most famous football anthem of them all, the bindippers' "You'll Never Walk Alone", in terms of a song, its pace, etc it is pretty similar to the Wonder of You. Elvis is no more turgid than the Bindippers' anthem.
I would want an anthem to be a good tune for showing your scarf, Wonder of You meets that criteria.
The other criteria is that it can be Arsenal's song alone. Some of the tunes mentioned are just so commonly played that they cannot really bconsidered ours. London's Calling gets played at the Chavs and also it gets played at Harlequins rugby and probably every other London club that wants to emphasise to the oppo that they are in the capital. Its just not Arsenal enough.
Just playing a tune that you like isn't enough either. That Kasabian tune they bang out before the Wonder of You is played absoltuely fucking everywhere, including constantly on SSN accompanied by images of scum fans in a car. That ain't Arsenal.
The other way to go is something like Charlton have with their Valley, Floyd Road song which uses the Mull of Kintyre tune but with words that really mean something to the fans (about coming home ot the Valley).
If you asked the average bindipper if they would like to have a song from a 50+ years old musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein about a love story in a sleepy New England fishing village, they'd probably say "Do me a favour". But that is what they have and it works for them. (BTW I remember when we used to sing that song on the North Bank)
I say give the Wonder of You a chance. There is no way you will get Arsenal fans to come up with their own - we haven't so far - so the only way for one to get adopted by our diverse set of fans is for the club to plug it and in my view the Wonder of You is as good a song as any.

Yep... agree...... Good old Arsenal.... followed by some good thumping, pumping tunes....Herd wrote:TWOY Was shit and totally engleman,it should be killed off NOW !

Wonder of You
Am I the only one who actually likes Wonder of You? Thought the Tottenham game was a decent example of it working well. Just needs a few more of us to actually bother to get our scarves waving and to sing along.
At the end of the day, it's us fans who should be creating the atmosphere no matter what is on the PA.
If we must change the anthem, my vote would be for 'Good Old Arsenal'.
Problem is, we risk getting something worse.... does anyone remember the worst one ever - v. Zaragoza in Paris, when our 'anthem' was We Are Sailing by Rod Stewart?
Up the Gunners.

Ive seen this debate rumble on for months now. Whats needed is a jog a long song that would appeal to all cultures tastes and ages from 8 to 80. The one song that strikes a chord with me and more importantly sends a shiver down my spine is YOUR THE FIRST,MY LAST,MY EVERYTHING by Barry White and if you listen to the lyrics they sum up how I believe most fans feel about this/their club...............
PUPPET ON A STRING

Does anyone remember when this used to be sung by a good section of the support around the late 80s. I remember a good rendition after the littlewoods semi against spurs.
OH Yes mate in the Bedford afterwards ..............what about spoonfull of sugar too, that would be fun !
