Please sign the Sunderland petition

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Thanks again to one and all, we are now up to 2,200 signatures and counting. Arsenal are amongst the clubs that have shown the most support to this and are very well represented in the signatures list- the support has not gone unnoticed. Thanks a lot lads, top effort :barscarf:

thanks again to everyone- just bumping this to give you an update:

Way back, not long after the incident happened, the IPCC had decided to investigate the conduct of the police. Doing this took them about 24 hours (during which time they spoke to none of the fans involved) and they said this:

Gary Garland, IPCC Commissioner for the North East, said: The video footage is conclusive that the police in this instance were subjected to a high level of violence by people intent on causing disorder. It is clear it was a large group who surged at the police officers. In such circumstances the force the officers chose to deploy in defending their position and preventing a further escalation of disorder was understandable, proportionate and justifiable.

The IPCC have obviously seen the footage and decided that the police were in the right. Which is strange because people's bail was up today and, guess what, not a single charge has been made. Obviously this "evidence" that was enough to convince the IPCC that they shouldnt investigate further and should, in fact, praise the conduct of the police, isnt good enough for them to consider it likely that they will get convictions

Typically, this isnt the matter finished with. The police have not dropped the investigation but have, instead, re-bailed the people involved until the 21st of December. Quite what evidence they hope to uncover between now and then bearing in mind they already have the central station CCTV is a mystery, but this is the action they have taken. This means the people caught up in this will miss another 3 home matches that they have paid for through their season tickets

This latest development proves, as far as im concerned, that the police do not have good enough evidence to convict, and suggests very strongly that the fans side of events might well be true. We await to see if charges are later brought, or if thepolice finally drop the investigation into the supporters (or offer them cautions in an attempt to save face)

It is highly, highly unlikely that any SAFC fan will face serious charges over this and it is likely that when the investigation is over, it is the police who will be facing charges

Cheers again to all Gooners who have signed, a great show of support :barscarf:
