AND IRELAND WILL PLAY........

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Hahahaha! And they don't get to realise how good they're NOT until the tournament starts when they and the media see that these other countries with smaller populations can actually really be quite good and in fact better than them!

If you look at our record at major tournaments its not as bad as people make out. Especially when you consider the circumstances of our exit most of the time.

And besides, what the hell is wrong with hoping for the best? They are knock-out tournaments for the most part dont forget.

For the most part I agree with you LDB but earlier today you rubbished Irelands chances despite the fact that it is a knock out competition so a little bit of double standards there I would suggest :o We know that this Ireland team is as poor an Ireland team as we have seen for 20 years but for aq country of some 4m people even qualifying is a huge acheivement and in these dire economic times the boost it would give our economy next summer is potentially huge (or it could fcuk the country altogether  ).

Anyway there is nothing wrong with you hoping for the best as far as england are concerned but sadly there are far too many who believe that england are as good as anyone even though history and results show a completely different picture. Of course a lot of that bullshit is fed by the slimy british media but, much like our own situation today, there are far too many brainless gobshites that follow their lead

Think you may be confusing me with somebody else there. I suggested a difference between being robbed at the qualification stage and the quarter finals as a piece of banter in response to the maradona taunts  . I personally hated the argument of idiots in their media bubble thinking only the nations with the most "superstars" deserve to be in the finals. Thats one of the most regretable outcome of the Sky Sports generation, imo.

Im not suggesting every team that gets to the finals has an equal chance. However in my opinion England is between the 8th and 5th best team in the world so we should be a safe bet to get to the knock-out stages. At which point anything can happen.

I think if our players can play with half the pride in the shirt of the irish lads we'd be in with a reasonable shot. Wishful thinking.. definately.

at the end of the day according to Radford it really is just a pointless competition every four years that is only good for giving us some football during the summer.

Radford maintains that life is still and will always be about club football and national teams are a mere vehicle for those from small towns with shit teams to cling on to
