THEO! WASTE OF MONEY????????

Post by goonersid »

Theo is now in his 5th season with the Gunners, and even taking into account that he joined us at a young age I don't think his record makes good reading. Predictibly I'm in the waste of money camp.
What do you lot think? And before Swale and BDB etc get all annoyed, I'm just asking for your opinions on what is without doubt a very debatable subject.
Record over 5 seasons
Games Started 55
90 mins completed 0 (I think this is accurate, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong)
Games used as substitute 47
Goals scored 13

people who think he is a waste of money are kids who don't know fuck all about football. He'll be back from his injury and terrorising defences in no time :barscarf:

Gotta give the boy a chance to mature as a player, I think we all know what he can do but he has to be able to do it consistently. I think he'll come good as the talent is definitely in there.

What he needs to improve on his his final ball and his finishing. His dribbiling and pace is enough to scare defenders. If he can improve his final ball and crossing he'll be one hell of a winger. He's also getting a lot of injuries and I fear his pace (like Michael Owen) will go with this...if so that is awful as that is what he relys on the most

Still remember when he came on against Bolton at the Reebok when we were 2-0 down and down to ten men, and he came on a tore Boltons wingers to shreads and helped us to a 3-2 victory. He also gives 100 percent every game and shows a love towards the club.

I have high hopes concerning Theo. He's been very unlucky with injuries so far. Let's hope indeed that he never becomes like Owen. I'm sure that if he can get one year without injury he will definitly raise his game.

We'll have to wait and see...

One thing that hasnt been mentioned is that when Theo plays he creates a lot of space for other players as he will regularly have two men on him. His last injury was just unlucky, it was a free hit from that *word censored* Ridgewell and watching him in his next couple of games he didnt even look like he could make a challenge.

No chance.

We bought him for what... £10-12m?? We'll eventually sell him to Citeh for £20m+ and include a sneeky little sell on clause.... they'll end up selling him to Sp*rs for another £20m, and we'll get £6-7m from that deal (a la Bentley) and we'll be quids in.

Either that or he'll be a success at the Arsenal. It's win, win. 8)

According to radford we have what is known as a show pony.

the lad lacks the nous to play the game, he has nothing about him that even justifies 20% of the hype.

at best he's an impact player with at best 15 minutes to go. he constantly loses the the ball, makes the wrong pass, mis-controls the ball, fails to deliver a decent cross or beat a man.

his improvement since his arrival has been minimal and his Radford cannot see him replacing anyone in the team as he is simply not good enough.

and as for his loyalty to Arsenal the pup has stated his most important objective this season is getting to the world cup (thanks theo).

Radford also notes that a lot say he will come good, this he may well do but let's be honest here what we have had does not amount to much.

I'm not in the "he is a waste of money" corner but at the same time I am very dooubtful that he will ever be the star that most seem to think that he will be. Being honest I just dont see the improvements in his game that give me much encouragement.......he came to us with blistering pace but in 5 years hasnt improved his dribbling (knocking the ball past the full back and running after it is not dribbling  ), hasnt improved his crossing, hasnt improved his finishing (which is criminal) and def hasnt improved tactically  If you added his glass body to that then you cannot be confident that he will ever really make it with us :(

I know that people keep using the age thing as an excuse but how long can that excuse stand up ? I mean even against players his own age in the under 21 championships he stunk the place out of it and he probably had more experience than 90% of the players  I dont think that it is unreasonable to expect more than he has shown when you pay the kind of money we did for such a young player so imo theo has to start showing that he is made to play at this level and fast
